the thing was that the last hbm card, the fury x wasn't very good at all, that with the tests done by pcper we got revealed that at least for ethereum (which is the main one right now) it wouldn't be useful, but i guess they changed something that improved perf a lot, would like to know what, and its probably memory related

Some people are talking like graphics cards are meant to be used to game only, mining with them is somehow morally wrong. Don't we all have freedom to do whatever we want with our hardware? If miners can preorder them why can't you?

Probably because many got gaming somewhere in their name, are sold as gaming cards, are bought to game with, performance is proved out with games... might be something like that. Don't I have the freedom to hate you miners? I can preorder sure... but what if AIB board XX is a dud, then I'm fucked. Instead I would rather make a proper decision based on reviews, don't I have the freedom to do that?

this is a free market, they want the cards more than you so they pay more, pre-order etc, 

(but again the small miners arent the problem, its the huge corporations buying planes full of cards that are the problem.)

do you mean people who pay for said energy every single cent and don't simply cut wires in the middle of the street and tape their stolen gpus to it for unlimited free energy?

True, crypto currencies are only worth something because people agree on their value.  But so is "real" money.  You know, the kind of money that can be faked and is regulated by a central authority and banks who caused several depressions that made people lose their jobs and/or homes (or worse).

 

As for the amount of electricity used by miners worldwide, that wouldn't be a problem in developed countries where the vast majority of electricity comes from renewable sources or nuclear power.  Of course you always have some backwards countries that are still stuck in the 19th century and rely on coal.

I'm not a miner. I want to buy one at launch for my freesync monitor too.

I'll try to pre order one as quick as I can. But if I choose to wait for reviews, I won't complain when the first batch is gone. Because it was my own decision there was no one else to blame.

Retailers would never go for that. Why would I (if i were a retailer) strap myself of customers because they don't have (or want) a 3rd party transaction party account just to buy a product? Are you seriously telling me to turn away the customer who has cash in hand because they don't have a paypal account?

That isn't the intended use of paypal. You're supposed to link a bank account and you use paypal as a middle man. You're not supposed to store funds there. The only reason you can store funds there is because you can receive money on paypal, and it has to stay there for a while to verify.
