Microsoft announces the Surface Laptop - aimed at students

GoodBytes

It looks nice, but I would have liked a few more usb ports and a VGA connection, because there is a ton of older projectors and monitors that only have VGA.

Heh, for once, the Razer Blade Stealth is beginning to sound more appealing. Desktop applications, 8GB RAM base, USB Type-C, more than one port, lower MSRP... Damn Microsoft, you're selling me other systems. Is that the intention of this product?? Not that I'm advocating for the system, just comparing.

You did see how thin this system is, right? VGA, or any additional ports would kill the thin and light a e s t h e t i c.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

To answer your question: many use an external mouse so it really isn't fair to exclude it just to try and get a point across

The hope is that they use bluetooth mice that are 'baggable', something like the MS Arc mouse, or the Logitech Ultrathin T630. The Arc folds flat, and the Ultrathin is just flat, and owning both, I'd take either over my older Logitech M325, especially from the prospect of the USB dongle, as it's just a hassle for traveling or school.

Many also use thumb drives.

Unless people are frequently backing things up, or keep all their documents on a flash drive, they're not using them that often anymore. Hell, one could use a wireless flash drive if need be.

If you want Ethernet you also need an adapter, so that's USB port number 3

Surface Dock works with the Surface laptop. Adds additional USB 3.0 ports, Ethernet, and DisplayPort, as well as charging the device. If one is going to be going that power user with this laptop (which realistically, no one buying this laptop plans on being a power user with it), they're getting a solution like that, not a cheap USB to Ethernet adapter

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Damn I'd get the SP4 or the Book if I was looking at any options for those prices. You'll get a much nice screen and accessory integration.

It's worth noting that the configurations they are selling are the same price as the Pro 4 but the Pro 4 has a Surface Pen included when this doesn't.......

But the Pro 4 is effectively more expensive because $129 keyboard.

Except macOS can actually run on lower specs.  MS telemetryware needs 1.5Ghz and 3.5GB ram of system resources alone, you get whats left over.

Also, it's worth mentioning that I'm pretty sure this will have all the same issues as the Pro 4 did and does.

Real world battery life is not going to be close to what was advertised. There will be issues with resuming/sleeping and also overheating.

Come on MS. Considering we had tablets with detachable keyboards+docks+secondary batteries back in 2011/2012 for around $500AUD (for 32GB models that is). Make a Surface version of the trend setting Asus Transformer Prime (which is actually better than the model that replaced it despite the flawed wireless connectivity).

So $1000 for a dual-core i5 with 4GB or RAM? Is this for Apple enthusiasts?

My Lenovo with Kaby i7 7500U and 12GB DDR4 was less than $500 BTW.

They're trying to compete with Apple because a large amount of college students use Macbooks.  If they didn't have Windows S I'd be down to buy one just to have.
