NVIDIA Announces GP102-based TITAN X with 3,584 CUDA cores

The new NVIDIA TITAN X, introduced today, based on our new Pascal GPU architecture, is the biggest GPU ever built. It has a record-breaking 3,584 CUDA cores.

We said our GTX 1080 delivers an “irresponsible amount of performance.” It was a bit reckless. But this is even more reckless.

So forget words. Here are its numbers:

  • 11 TFLOPS FP32
  • 44 TOPS INT8 (new deep learning inferencing instruction)
  • 12B transistors
  • 3,584 CUDA cores at 1.53GHz (versus 3,072 cores at 1.08GHz in previous TITAN X)
  • Up to 60% faster performance than previous TITAN X
  • High performance engineering for maximum overclocking
  • 12 GB of GDDR5X memory (480 GB/s)

TITAN X will be available Aug. 2 for $1,200 direct from nvidia.com in North America and Europe, and select system builders. It is coming soon to Asia.

Maybe this time the Titan X will have double precision unlike the Maxwell Titan X and this would be a very expensive GPU in NZ.

The better question is why was the Titan 9 the Titan X. 

 

I wonder if it supports more than two-way SLI.

Ugh, reusing the 'TITAN X' naming scheme is going to cause some confusion.

 

There doesn't look to be a Founder's Editon (hopefully) and an extra $200 over the previous reiteration isn't actually that bad.

Double precision doesn't help normal users/gamers much, but why only 12GB 5X? Might have to replace my Titans if it really is better by 60%.

I wouldn't call it pointless..... Certainly has its advantages at 4k, or UW 1440p thanks to the much higher bandwidth, but yes... hard to get hold of.

the titans were never cards meant straight to gamers, the first titan was a good value for pros that required double precision, and the old titan x was mostly advertised for AI development, which with this new one they are doing the same, its for AI development.

I wouldn't say pointless, exactly. A smaller amount of HBM memory seemed to be able to keep up with a higher amount of GDDR5 memory. The main limitations were:

Cost + max 4GB capacity

 

The latter has been resolved with HBM2. Cost is still an issue though, and I imagine it's probably still in short supply.

 

But you can still achieve similar enough results with GDDR5x by just giving the GPU more VRAM.

Doesn't Nvidia Lock down the Titan's and not allow partner custom cards anyway?

Pretty sure 480GB/s is enough even for this card

Will we be seeing a V2 with HBM later?

I am guessing no 1080ti as this is GP102 and the full fat GP100 with HBM2 comes out in August so we will still have to wait.

Agreed, the Titan isn't supposed to be a gaming card. The x80 Ti card is supposed to be the ultimate gaming card. The Titan is supposed to have advantages for people looking for a prosumer/workstation card, that also happens to be badass at gaming.

Had my hopes for HBM2 memory but this is still a beast. For that price it better drown the 1080's.

I'm really surprised it doesnt come with HBM2 memory, considering how exclusive the TITAN line is supposed to be, the cost of HBM would be well worth it for such an exclusive card anyway. 

 

Lets be honest, the TITAN series has always been a "because i can" thing. I wonder if itll be as power hungry and hot as the last TITAN X
