Its actually true. I always gamed on a 60hz display, and when I upgraded from a gtx 660 to a 7950 many years ago I started noticing terrible tearing problems. it was the first time I really noticed it. Eventually I bought a 1440p 144hz freesync display and upgraded to Hawaii (I did have a furyX for a while but it was a piece of junk). I've been using AMD until a month ago without any tearing, and it's been nice, but I wasn't happy with the performance I was getting and decided screen tearing was a sacrifice I'd be willing to make to upgrade to a 1070. I game with vsync disabled on the 1070, and I experience no tearing that I can discern. I've talked to others about it and its either that nvidia frame times are more consistent, or that at 144hz you only see each frame for 6.9 seconds, while you see each frame on a 60hz display for 16.67 seconds, thus tearing is a non-issue.

 

I would have disagreed with you a few months ago, but it is true, tearing effects 60hz displays horribly, but if you have a beast card and a 60hz display, you can still enable fast sync and have perfect tear-free gaming and no input lag.

Huh. I thought it was no custom PCB. Didn't custom coolers exist? The Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming Titan X comes to mind.

Not initially no. It was extremely hard for Gigabyte and EVGA to get their custom cards in the mix.
