This might be a stupid question but can I make my PC better without paying? I don't care if it's software or hardware but I've already done cable management.

Deleting temp files, HDD Defrag, virus scan, fresh OS installation, disabling start-up applications. Quite a lot you can do to freshen up an old PC.

I have an i3, and I've already overclocked my Craphics card.

if you have more than one stick of memory....take all of them out except one...run with reduced memory for a month....plug other sticks back in...enjoy your performance boost.

Apart from overclocking ( which you have already done ), registry cleaning , and stuff like malwarebytes ( if your pc is slowed down because of malware ) etc , there isn't much you can do for free.

 

The best affordable upgrade for cheap would be to get an ssd to significantly improve system responsiveness.

Driver testing, overclocking, free up that memory and turn off useless stuff in teh background.

If you're daring and don't absolutely require certain Windows compatible programs, you could get a nice version of Linux that would run better than Windows.

methods:

1) go use a slower system for a week and resume to yours, keep repeating every week/as frequently as you require

2) (applicable to OC machines) move to the southern/northern hemisphere and overclock your system with lower temps

3) dust your machine

4) do a clean install of windows every 3~4 months, or when you feel like your computer is sluggish

5) close all services in msconfig except microsoft ones

6) get hardware for free by however means you can (doing charity work or what not)

Download one of those GAEMBOOSTR apps that do nothing and enjoy that sweet sweet taste of placebo.

 

In all seriousness, overclocking is the only real "more performance for cheap" trick and your hardware isn't really suited for it.

Its ethernet was also way ahead, with up to 100 mbps transfer speeds, quite abit faster then what most people had today and let up to 16 xboxs link to the same router and have massive halo matches. I think I have covered everything, so yea enjoy that chunk of text!
