I am actually more looking forward to GDDR5X than HBM2.

Why? HBM 2 is so much higher density, higher bandwidth, lower power, lower latency.

And that the Nano needed a better cooler so it wouldn't thermal throttle.....

Higher bandwidth, density, and power - yes, but latency will still be in favor of GDDR5X.  But bandwidth has proven to be not so much an issue with GDDR5 and GDDR5X will extend it just that bit further.  Density and form factor is definitely going to be interesting with HBM and ITX builds.  Power is definitely nice, though.

If they ship sampels to an engineer I won't be surprices if they have a setup to run the chip subambient for tests. The more data you have the better you can optimize something.

But as said that's only for the engineers not for us consumers.

Comparing old cards has nothing to do with wanting better efficiency. Technology is constantly improving to do things in more efficient ways. If I can get a top end card that consumes half the power of the previous (whilst being more powerful), I consider that a huge step forward.

The architecture is designed with compute in mind, but that doesn't mean there won't be consumer cards. It will be like socket 2011. There will be "enthusiast/gamer" products but they're all just cut-down server parts in disguise.

5870 was king back then, however now I don't even consider AMD when buying GPU.

At this point I was thinking that too as what dude is like OH GPUS!!! Screenshots it takes the file puts it on a USB and then uploads it. I am pretty sure shipping PCs are locked down and you can't just do whatever on enterprise systems like that. It is like a cash register, you can't google something

Yea, but if it's also 5x the speed that still makes it use the same power. Efficiency is only part of the equation. Now I'm not saying that I'm right and it does use that much power, I'm just saying that you can't say I'm wrong just because it's more efficient.

It's going to be the same thing on AMD's side. Honestly, anyone who thought any cards besides the high end cards from either vendor would have HBM(2) was delusional.

On a small 6 inch cooler with 1 fan, yeah of course it will. But it uses <200 watts of power.

 

 

Because it is TDP handicapped and throttles itself to maintain that power target & temp target...

 

You could do the same thing to a Fury X or 390x as well, doesn't make it efficient
