Posted November 9, 2020 Discovered the world of keyboards this year - it's been fun reading through this thread and discovering the projects here on LTT. A lot of nice projects. Build this board with POM Creams and kailh sage clickies for thé mods. The second was a restoration of an Apple board with Alps salmon. Did some tests and considered whitening the plastic, but honestly the yellow look is nicer. It was great having to have the two boards to compare. The hobby is dangerously absorbing. Bleigh! Posted November 12, 2020 Switch Modding - Hako Royal Clears + Kailh BOX Blacks I wanted black bottom housings for my Kailh BOX Blacks! Before... ...and After! Process Pics: Yus, I'm using a pocket knife. Neu, I don't have a switch opener. If it works, it works, amirite? Spoiler Hako Royal Clears! Kailh BOX Blacks! Only 10 done for now, 'cos I need this thing called sleep. Side Note: The Hako Royal Clears lose a lot of tactility after swapping out its bottom housing with that of the Kailh BOX Black's -- the bump is nowhere as sharp as it was before the mod. Would not recommend doing this if you're very particular about your tactiles, but I'ma linear-y person, so it's sorta a non-issue for me?
 Posted November 14, 2020 After using the kailh box white for some time in my gmmk I decided to try the gateron yellow again. Those are quite smooth and they don't feel quite the same as the first time I tried them some months ago. I think it's a matter of keycaps, back then I had some double shot pbt keycaps OEM profile and now I'm using some double shot abs keycaps SA profile. I really like those keycaps but the sad thing about a profile that tall is that the wobble is kind of really noticeable. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to lube them or not. Well I'll take some time to get used to them before deciding if I like them stock or not. I find that the total travel is a bit long for me and I have a tendency to bottom out a lot. If you do end up liking Gateron Yellow, I really encourage you to lube those, helps reducing spring related noises from my experience. About the wobbly keycaps, yep this is a common characteristic of basic Gateron as they are known to have a lot of top housing wobble and loose stems. About the wobbly keycaps, yep this is a common characteristic of basic Gateron as they are known to have a lot of top housing wobble and not have a tight stem. Well I'm still debating with myself about it ... I feel that the spring is a little light for my taste after trying the kailh box burnt orange ... and the total travel is something I'm getting used to slowly ... maybe some heavier gateron yellow would be nice ... strangely enough there's not really a switch type that I don't like and I still have a hard time to decide if I like linear or tactile better. Also I don't mind the click coming from a click bar so it's even harder to decide. I also bought some film a while back and I'm having a hard time deciding which of my switches would benefit from them. I'm pretty sure that the yellow would be the best suited as I don't see the burnt orange or the speed copper benefit much from films ... I got the KBD67v2 MKII DIY kit earlier this year and it does not disappoint, albeit with a premium price. The KBD67 Lite is supposedly available around Black Friday, it seems like great value. However, it has a lot of people on the waitlist so once that notification gets sent I imagine it will sell out really quick. https://kbdfans.com/products/coming-soonkbd67lite-mechanical-keyboard-diy-kit?_pos=3&_sid=af10537c1&_ss=r AMD Motherboard Tier List ‖ GPU Cooling Tier List ‖ PSU Tier List ‖ A Dive Into Custom Keyboards & Mechanical Switches NEWCOMERS Remember to ' Reply ' to comments in order for people to see them, this is done by clicking the arrow icon at the bottom of a comment (Quote). Posted November 20, 2020 Spicing things up! Not sure I like the yellow mixed in as much as the white caps, I wish the yellow was more pale. But mixing more of the novelties in is a nice touch. One thing I really like about this cap set is that it's fairly neutral, you can switch all caps to white and pale green. Even the arrows and escape keys that I have in red (shown here) could can be switched for green. Meaning in a sense you can really dress it down so it would not look as flashy. But there are tons of options with this kit that allow you to distinctly change the color pallet and remove all novelty caps. Posted November 20, 2020 So, I've been giving speed switches a try again. This time, Kailh Speed Bronzes. I'm not a big fan of how misaligned the clickbar and actuation point are. I feel it should actuate at 1.2mm, but at least there's some tactile feedback through the clickbar. I'll still give them a fair shake and see if I can train myself to rest my fingers on them without triggering them, but if not I guess I'll just go back to NK Sherbets when NovelKeys restocks those. I haven't tried the speed bronze and the issue with the misalignment must be quite annoying. The only speed I have are the speed copper and I enjoyed them a lot for the time they were in my keyboard. I was tempted to get the speed bronze at some point but now you kinda convinced me to skip them for now.
