Does it get any smaller?

So in my search for a new SFF case, I learned that it really does not get much smaller than the Velkase Velka 3 Rev 1.2.

 

I recently moved my home PC from the InWin case that it was in previously to the Velka 3. Reason's for the upgrade, the previous case had a 130W PSU built in, which was fine for the build, a Pentium G-4600T was the heart of the system, but my i7-6700k was sitting around unused, along with a 16GB kit of RAM, so I spent months looking for a similar sized case that could fit a PSU as well.

 

For a while I considered the DanCase offerings and other similar cases, but by the time everything was said and done these cases would cost over $250cad, not so budget friendly. Luckily this recent LTT build provided an answer:

 

 

I pretty much immediately pre-ordered the case, the only other item I required was the flex ATX PSU. Thankfully I only had to wait around 6-week for delivery, and it arrived well before Christmas. The case is $80usd, actually reasonably priced, but with the exchange rate, shipping, and duties It was $146cad, not cheap but I knew what I was paying for. 

 

Upgraded system specs:

CPU:                    i7-6700k

Cooler                  Cryorig C7

Motherboard:       MSI B250i Gaming Pro AC ITX

Memory:              G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2800 MHz RAM

Storage:              Crucial MX300 275GB M.2 SSD (OS), Seagate BarraCuda 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM HDD

Power Supply:    SeaSonic 300W 80+ Gold Flex ATX PSU

Case:                  Velkase Velka 3 Rev 1.2 (4.1L)

 

This is next to my previous case (sorry for the bad photos).

 

The Velka 3 is slightly shorter, and slightly wider.

 

I teased this case in my latest build log for my Silverstone SG13 (11.5L), an already compact ITX case that now looks big.

Here is the SeaSonic 300W Flex PSU I bought, impressively small if I do say so. Side note, I can't remember the last time I bought a PSU with these beautiful mustard cables.

Swapped the CPU and RAM!

 

Really interesting motherboard mounting system.

 

 

There's lots of options to mount multiple 2.5" SSDs/HDDs, easy in this setup as I'm not mounting a dedicated GPU. This case does support single slot GPU's which is actually pretty insane considering the size.

Just realized I had a big smudge on my phones camera lens, so my apologies for the bad photos. 

 

 

Ultimately this case exceeded my expectations. It is well thought out, and having everything mount externally on the motherboard tray bracket is really smart, this makes the build process quite simple. The instructions are well written and easy to follow, although I had to get a copy off the Velkase website, non came included. Otherwise it was well packaged and came with all the screws required.

If I could make one change I would sacrifice an extra 1-2cm of height in order to allow for standard 80mm fans to fit at the top, otherwise I'm impressed with this case. It's hard to get much smaller and the build experience was easier than in my SG13, I commend Velkase on their execution, I really like this small build!

Yeah, I hadn't heard of it either! Great case though! And yeah, very limited PSU options indeed.
