[update]Steam has been compromised - SOLVED

Misanthrope
Go to solution Solved by Nowak,

A Steam community moderator has spoken up.

http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/0/458604254431478327/

From the post:

Some frequently asked questions:

- No, Steam is not hacked

- Creditcard info and phone numbers are, as required by law, censored and not visible to users

I'm still fucking baffled why their servers are still up.

Yea really

A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

It's a caching program gone rogue.  Just goes to show that we need to not store our information on services, or leave our credit cards / debit cards on said services.  This is a disaster.  On the brightside - this guy from Portugal has a really pretty account.  I could be him if I tried hard enough(/s)

Their caching server somehow fucked up. They seriously need to shut down the store too before more damage can be done.

This is why you should never check the "Save payment information" button when buying games. Or anything, really.

It'd be nice if I could login to my account...but no it has to be magicaltophat's account lol

I think Valve should shut down their servers entirely until the issue is fixed.

Odd. I appear to still be logged into my own account. It's my own profile, games list, and everything, but when I go on the store to look at games to buy, it shows them under different randomly changing currencies and says that I have friends that own the game that aren't on my friends list.

Edit: It won't actually let me purchase a game though. It refuses to add anything to my cart.

You know what's easier than buying and building a brand new PC? Petty larceny!
If you're worried about getting caught, here's a trick: Only steal one part at a time. Plenty of people will call the cops because somebody stole their computer -- nobody calls the cops because they're "pretty sure the dirty-bathrobe guy from next door jacked my heat sink."

Holy shit. Good thing I don't have any credit cards attached to my Steam Wallet. I think they made the entire store page log everyone out, and even if you try to sign in it just redirects back to the front page.

You fucked up Valve.

Because its a caching issue, avoid using steam or steam services/websites/URLs (Source: SteamDB, Twitter) Also, you should DE-AUTHORISE steampowered payments on your paypal account (NOT ON STEAM!, on paypal.com!!) becuase it can be used to buy games (Source: PlayNation, German Website)

Now, SteamDB are telling you not to even visit steam...

Guys, you think Valve just have a kill switch? No chance, taking down Steam will be a huge task and it's Christmas day.

If they take it down it will take a while. Much more likely is they'll expire all cookies and prevent new logins, AFAIK they can't log everyone out so that's not an option.

they take it down pretty much every week for "maintenance"... they definitely do have a kill switch and it would be easy.  and if a company this important doesn't keep someone on call 24/7, they don't deserve the position of power they have built for themselves

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
