Halo 5 Outsold James Bond new film (Spectre) on it's first day

Halo 5 outsold the new james bond by 1.4 million pounds (or around $ 2.1 Million USD). Holy balls. This is awesome! Gaming is becoming more mainstream.

 

Halo 5 on it's launch day made 7.7 million pounds (around 11 .6 million USD) and the James Bond film made 6.3 million pounds (around 9.5 million USD).

 

The news comes as Daniel Craig announced that he's only doing the bond series for the money.

Yes but it's... Halo, people are paying $60-$80 for 4hrs of story (refer to AngryJoe's review), and a less than mediocre multiplayer.

I actually haven't seen any James Bond movies since sky-fall, and even that one I watched of a DVD, not even a bluray....

And I don't think I have seen the one before skyfall either.

I found Spectre to be bland and straightforward compared to the other Craig Bond films.  No shocking moments like in Casino Royale or Skyfall... or the way Quantum was a direct sequel to CR.

 

Christoph Waltz makes for an awesome villain though.

First off, Halo 5 is garbage (that coming from a long time fan of the series says a lot). Also, you don't pay 60 bucks for a movie ticket, and, how is video games making more money than movies news anyway - remember when GTA V grossed more than most of 2013's biggest movie releases?

But if you where to compare the amount of people who saw the film and who bought the game in the first week the film would have been higher because everyone (on consoles) preorders games so they get it on the first day where as people aren't that probably going to see the film on the first day.

Day One sales for a movie aren't as important as Day One sales for a video game. TONS of people pre-order video games. So that first day of sales gets a huge bonus from the lump-sum pre-orders.

 

While movies get pre-sales too, not nearly to the same degree. Most people simply buy tickets when they get to the cinema.

 

Also, a big hollywood blockbuster will hold sales for much longer than a video game, which gets a majority of it's sales within the first week or two.

 

I'll put it this way, if you don't buy a new AAA game within a week of it coming out, you're probably just going to wait for it to go on Steam Sale anyway.

 

Furthermore, this isn't exactly news, is it? BO2 made a shit-ton of money. GTAV made more money than most movies - period. GTAV made over $800M USD on release day. That is more than any movie - ever, has made in one day. Hell, Jurassic World holds the biggest gross opening weekend record, (That's 3 days worth of sales), and that's only $500M USD.

 

Video games often make a lot more money than movies.

The campaign and total lack of local multiplayer (eg split screen) is the garbage.
