ohhh whats the tracers look like?

Ill grab a still tonight - we did them in daylight - the tracer we shot through smoke of the TV and let it hit a metal panel - you can see the streak leave the barrel white hot, and in the next frame on impact of the tin it lights up white hot (can see it through the smoke filled abyss).

EDIT - I also have the entire shoot on video, edited down to 5 minutes (of the shoot) shooting all those diff rounds.  Once I am ready I can post it on my wall (its my youtube channel)

Tracer slugs?  Oh yeah neat AF.  Better at night but it was like 35F and dropping so we didnt want to wait for nighttime (for the dragonsbreath or tracer).  I would assume (havent played MW) that if they are anything like they are supposed (in MW) to be then yes, streaks flying through the air.  Hitting steel (thick steel) with them can really create some light shows.  In the video we were shooting 4k 60FPS and we only have 2 frames in that shot - 1 with a long white hot streak cruising through the air and the impact which is a bright white flash on the metal (which you can see through a thick haze of smoke)

Also on the video is some .22LR incendiary rounds.  First time Ive found them in .22lr chamber so bought a pack.  They werent super impressive...but the watermelon full of gasoline wasnt a great combustion idea anyhow LOL.

Yes

Thats exactly how it works

You swap out the bolt with a .22LR bolt...viola .22lr.

Bugger; I always forget that 223 and .22lr are effectively the same diameter.  I might do that to my AR as well!  Then I'll have a handy semi auto .22lr rifle I can use :3

The only recommendation I can tell you is to run plated .22LR if you do this. Otherwise, you really need to have the pipe cleaners and solvents to keep the gas tube clean on your upper. If not, you'll start having cycling problems when the lead clogs the tube up from shooting unplated .22, and you go back to using ,223.

Its worthwhile for affordable plinking.  My wifes bugout bag is an AR15 w/ 22 conversion kit and 3 loaded mags for it.  Looks menacing, can swap to a more powerful round, but perfect for her in terms of recoil if the SHTF.

They used to be alot more affordable, I paid around $80 each for my kits (comes with bolt carrier and 1 mag)

Thats AR15's in general.

They are one of the few rifles that eat where they shit for lack of a better term.  The gas gets dumped back into the same chamber that cycles rounds and causes all sorts of issues.  Im not fanboi'ing AK's but...piss down a barrel will clean one of them!  Im personally not a HUGE fan of the AR platform for this reason (the gas piston location) but have a few because its the most common round found in America (law enforcement and military round).  If they military moves to a new platform (rumor says it will) I will to

Thats my nephew, Im in the dragonsbreath picture from earlier today (I was behind him filming)

Tracers during the day are lackluster - tracers at dusk/night...a light show.  Daylight tracers are probably military grade.  I have some AK tracers and AR tracers (as well as incendiary for both) but none are as bright (during the day) as the 12ga tracers

EDIT - this is the reason I just got a GoPro Hero9 Black - so I can take 1080p 240hz footage (so I can get WAYYYY better stills, and video overall)

Some states restrict Tracers, and not for dumb reasons. I mean, California, Oregon, and Washington really don't need more reasons to burn to the ground, they do it all on their own already.

That said, I got to shoot some 9mm tracer ammo. It was -10°F, in Wyoming. Was under a little tin roof dealie, it was probably 10°F under cover. I couldn't figure out why the .45ACP I was firing would randomly go waaay off course, until we whipped the 9mm out with Tracers. I could actually see a round go out about 10', then hang a hard turn in a random direction. The assumption was that the temperature shift while in flight was causing rounds to start tumbling. Happened with the .44mag revolver, .45 ACP 1911, and the 9mm Walther. Pretty sure the AK and the .300 win mag weren't tumbling, but we had already put those away by the time it got that cold.

Thats interesting, typically a bored out barrel causes tumbling, but that wouldnt happen across all those firearms.  Thats crazy!

No kidding. It wasn't every round, either, but maybe 3 out of 10? Was just weird, aiming at a target and having a big sploosh in the snow several feet away from the target itself.

Also found out that a .300 win mag can make a 12' long divot through snow, followed by a nice 3' long divot through dirt. 😄

Picked up 10 rounds of 50bmg ($50 even)I will cycle through it.  If by the 9th round it doesnt blow up, Im jamming mud down the barrel and catching the chaos in slow mo.  Yes I will be doing this "safely" - 50 foot lead, hiding behind 2 steel plates walls 😉

I intentionally picked up the cheapest 12ga I could ($163 after taxes).  I want to see if it will hold up to a single 50bmg being fired in it.  Ill post some pics tomorrow before I head out to the farm 🙂  Then post some pics after I finish 🙂 Will be catching all of this in slow mo on the GoPro Hero 9 black.

Reason Im going to destroy the gun no matter what is because the integrity of the weapon will be compromised regardless once 1 50 cal bmg round is ran through it.

Yes it will fit, yes the firing pin will impact the primer.  Whether the gun holds up - lets find out 🙂

Call me the odd man out, but I don't think it will blow up without a bore obstruction. Since smokeless powder is a propellant and needs containment to build pressure, the amount of case deforming that will happen to the shoulder/neck area on the case being free inside a smoothbore shotgun will be significant, so pressure will be reduced. Will you get flame-cutting or damage further down the barrel from a projectile tumbling? Maybe/probably.

I would still watch the video though.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

I would agree - especially if the shotgun has 3” or larger chamber or is backbored.

I would suggest a good ramrod and a pair of pliers will be needed to extract the brass if you want to do this more than once.

Well was a total flop due to the firing pin not having enough ass to properly dimple the primer.  I mean I tried every "in the field" mod I could lol.  I have some dummy 50bmg and the primer dimple on those is significantly deeper than what this ATI 12ga could drive.  After 2 hours of trying we decided to just blow up some fire extinguishers.  Had a heavy metal one take 2 .45 rounds to blow, had to hit it in the same spot lol.

Ive downloaded all the footage, running through handbrake atm (GoPro Hero 9 is in H.265 which photoshop currently doesnt support) then will render in premiere pro and take some screenshots.

Next weekend Ill be at another show, will either get a better 12ga (more research on what I need to get) or come up with a new show idea completely.  Tannerite always comes to mind.

EDIT - good thing I looked at this screenshot, starting handbrake over was converting to 30 FPS.  Need datch 240 fps.

After 7-1/2 months, my 12" LaRue barrel is finally here!

I mocked it up with a Midwest Industries barrel nut that I had laying around to get a good measurement for the handguard length. Once the handguard is in, it'll finally be a functional rifle! Please disregard the slightly over the top 3 chamber comp, it's a mount for the suppressor that I'm also expecting to arrive soon, well as soon as one can expect the federal government to approve a form 4 anyway, this rifle will likely never be shot unsuppressed.

Not sure what the used market looks like in Canada but I would recommend something like the RCBS JR3 (green press in my photo).  It's an older full frame single stage press but parts are still available for it and I have no problem doing reloading up to .30-06 size cases.  I got mine for $50 used with a whole box of extra's.   As crazy as this may sound the majority of your cost with getting into reloading is not going to be the press itself, it's going to be all the accessories needed that make it work.

It's funny you say that, on ebay right now there's a JR 3 for $50.

I was originally looking at the RCBS RCS for about $250CAD, then I noticed all the accessories I need lol. I'll definitely look around and see what I can find used, that could be a solid idea. Ontop of that are die's "cross platform"? Can I buy a set of Lee's die and put it in a RCBS?

I have RCBS, Lee and Lyman dies and they are universal thread size for your average calibers.   All three die brands work in either of my presses.  Shotgun and really big stuff like 50BMG require different threading and they may not be the same between brands but I don't own any and don't know.  My second press (red one) is the Lee Load-Master progressive press.  Really good for pistol ammo but not so much for rifle.
