DX11 graphics performance W8.1 vs W10 [updated]

Here are the initial results, the difference in graphics card performance in-between Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 is currently NIL. The one improvement we see is Battlefield Hardline, but I would bet money on it that this is due to a driver improvement. Obviously future games will support DirectX 12, that will make a big difference.

in the last week or so, I heard a lot of people claiming WDDM2 is "magic" and brings so many performance improvements ... NO! it doesn't!

So basically all within margin of error?

 

I know it's early but people making performance reviews need to wait a few months :)

It would have been interesting to see how Windows 7 scored. I wouldn't be surprised if it was within margin of error as well. I mean, the OSes has the same APIs so it's not like the amount of work needing to be done changes, nor does upgrading to a newer version make your hardware any better. I guess background tasks might require less resources but that usually doesn't make a whole lot of difference anyway.

 

It will be another story when games that support DirectX 12 comes out. That will (hopefully) give us a decently sized boost in performance.

that claim is tied to dx12, wddm 2.0 support means it support dx12, i dunno who told wddm itself would be faster, wddm is literally MS graphic software architecture for windows post vista

Everything you are showing is withing margin of error of any synthetic benchmark dont even bother talk about improvements cause there arent any except for DX12 games that will come much later.

End of story.

win10 isnt even fully optimized nor does it even have any updates yet

even the drivers arent even released for win10

But NVidia has WHQL certified Win10 insider drivers. Since 352.84 back in mid May. So over two months now. Ooor am I mistaken?

I never said there wernt ANY optimized drivers... :mellow:

 

Then I'm not sure what you're getting at. That there needs to be time before we see drivers optimized for games running on Win10? Then what was the purpose of the Technical Preview for like a year?

I don't think anybody was expecting performance increase between 8.1 and 10 for DirectX11 games... Its DirectX12 that brings the improvements.

but these games arent DX12 titles... why would win 10 be of any use this way with dx11?

When you run 3Dmark is say the drivers aren't verified yet. Really people let devs work on good drivers

Every new version of Windows, you have these reviewers, to get clicks, makes these stupid day 1 benchmark, which always shows the same things: Same or lower performance in gaming. People can't even get their system working properly with the latest Nvidia and AMD (Intel also included to the party) drivers, yet here we go.

Based on these early benchmark, getting Windows XP will be a MASSIVE performance boost over Windows 8/10. Yet is it true? Of course not. We see it, we experience it. There is no doubt about it.

Oh and the benchamrk is poorly done. It only look at the 980Ti. How about lower end cards?

But Windows 10 was just released anyways... I'll wait a month + before watching benchmarks comparison.

Windows 10 Pro works great on my PC, even with 15.7 drivers, but solved the old cursor thing now with 15.7.1

 

That being said, Windows 8 did seem to introduce a performance increase. Maybe it's just placebo though, but Watch Dogs did seem to have a performance increase in Watch Dogs during the day, where it's more CPU bound and less GPU bound. Maybe Windows 10 is more CPU effective? That would benefit AMD's drivers more than nvidia I believe. Either way, it will be interesting to see proper benchmarks.
