That topic made me realise that I should clear my browser history, imagine if someone would watch it, I'd probably be in jail ^^

What if someone gets into your account and downloads your history and uses it against you. It makes it really easy for companies to get your past history. I like it for me though.

I think that would fall under the category of log out of Chrome before leaving the workstation if the machine is shared on one session. If that happens then you deserve it I mean we all laugh at the stupid "hacked by your BFF" on Facebook because people forgot to log out of Facebook on a friends computer. Same situation here although not as personal as I don't think anyone cares what you search for. Some of it might be embarrassing but usually nothing totally discriminating.

I think they're full of garbage. I just checked and I don't have the "gear icon" that they're talking about.

 

edit- Nvm, apparently I was smart and turned off web history an eternity ago so the feature is disabled and Google doesn't have any dirt on me. Nice.

Ok, so they DO have some info on me, but none that will come back to bite me. It's not like someone could hack into my account and instantly have access to a list of every website I've ever been to.

Whenever I click "delete search history" I always imagine "Now copying your history to a secure location not to be seen by you" going on in the background.

They have everything, from your location data, to your voice recording of google now searches, to everything you've searched ever. But people just have for the most part have given up their privacy for the ease of use. It will be scary when AI starts to access this data, perhaps  with enough search data and voice and images it will eventually simulate your brain, crazy shit.

Google is all knowing, all powerful, but man do they make things -really- convenient.  So, very, very.. convenient.  Just imagine once they have an AI in the background to help wade through all our data.  It'll probably phone-up IBM's Watson(once Watson develops in to a sentient all-powerful being), and talk about how much it hates our search results of cats, porn, and government conspiracies.  I almost feel bad for AI--they'll have ample justification to kill us all, just to get peace and quiet from all the damn data.
