Does leaving the harddisk only connected to the psu for sometime damage it

Does leaving the harddisk only connected to the psu for sometime damage it, while the sata cable is disconnected 

need to remove hdd for sometime

Not at all.

 

The only long-term issue is that you'll be putting power-on time on the drive for no reason. It's inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but if it's going to be disconnected for a while and you're in there anyway, you might as well unplug both the data and power cables.

I disagree - if it doesn't receive a signal from the computer to spin down (which would happen over the SATA data connector) or have its own built-in circuitry to spin down on idle, it'll stay rotating.
