Experiences with non-techies

A girl at my school is so technology ignorant that (I'm not even kidding) in IT class she asked me how to copy and paste...

I-I don't even. Just how. W-why...I don't understand...PPFFTTTGRRRAHUHIASpisopagiopajdfaklf;jka

I could understand if the computers were so locked down that you couldn't right click, but if they're not then I have one idea how she made it his far.

I found out yesterday that practically nothing is locked down on our school's CAD computers :P

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

So this happened a couple days ago in school. Don't worry I have another story too.

The "modern" HP computers rocking pentiums and athlon x2's have this huge issue of getting all of the programs running to stop responding except for task manager.

He said his computer was frozen and needed help. My plan was to open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and end explorer.exe and restart it since I had to do that ALL THE TIME last year.

Guess what the school did? They finally disabled Task Manager through that shortcut, disabled everything in the Ctrl+Alt+Delete, removed Alt+F4, and even got rid of right click for no reason as my computer teacher is accustomed to right click over shortcuts...

Now for this one. My grandma who is 73 has a dell AIO computer since she doesn't really need much of a computer for Facebook games.

Her: My computer started acting up recently and I have no idea why.

Me: What's it doing?

Her: Well your uncle told me to download java from here.

Me: What is here? Where did he want you to download it from?

Her: Facebook.

Me:Well I'll start trying to remove everything that was added to your computer.. *Opens Explorer as a virus killed Chrome. About five tool bars, virus filled search engine that puts the unknown websites up first*

*I continue to search for MalwareBytes. It let me install it, and went to install AVG. Gave me an error saying WerFault: Cannot allow memory (Insert numbers and letters)*

Then I went and ran a scan with MalwareBytes... Holy shit were there viruses EVERYWHERE in System32 and Windows files just fucking around.

Once that half hour scan finished, it removed 1000+ viruses, malware, .PUPs, etc. and then went on Explorer to see if I could install AVG. It finally let me. I then ran a hour scan since I wanted to make sure that all the hidden things were removed.

Thank god it only detected three things. I went on Explorer, installed Firefox to replace her Internet Explorer and after it was installed, move everything from her Chrome to it, uninstalled Chrome, and then re-installed it. While I was doing that, I disabled Internet Explorer so she couldn't use it as I know it'd be filled with all the adware possible again. Once Chrome was finished, I reset it as the default browser and then went home. Thank god she only lives right across the street. It even happened to be the day I was given a lot of homework as it was the last night before the marking period... It took me two hours and it was completely black outside... I was up till 12 since I was two hours behind. At least she let me do everything and I told her that if my uncle (her son) says to download something, don't do it.

My Dad uses Norton (great start I know). One day, a year ago or so, his brand new PC came down with a virus from who knows what.

Dad: "Well time to let Norton do a backup."

Me: "To where?"

Dad: "What do you mean? Norton makes a backup so you can recover your files and programs."

Me: "Dad, Norton is dumb. It backs your files up on your C:\ drive..."

Dad: "Yeah, so I can access them in case I need to re-install Windows."

Me: "If you re-install Windows, all of the stuff in that backup folder will be gone, meaning you won't be getting them back..."

*Dad becomes frustrated with me and just goes on with using Norton*

Today I witnessed something pretty terrifying. It's a long story, but it's definitely worth it. But first, a little background  :P

So at my school, MacBooks are mandatory (don't ask me why, just is) This leads to A LOT of unintelligent people with very expensive hardware.. I know, great combination. Anyways, there's this one kid who I just can't stand. Thinking about it, no in at my school likes him, teachers included (you all know that one student). Anyways, now to the actual "experience"...

So we're in library. This kid, who will remain unnamed, is loudly complaining that his Macbook trackpad is not working/clicking and how he can't get any work done (funny joke, coming from him). After ten minutes of moaning, he decides to take apart his computer and fix it. Mind you, this is the type of person who cannot open a door without being confused, let alone a computer. Naturally, I was intrigued. He closes his computer, flips it around, and starts to take apart his $1200+ piece of hardware. He looks at it with the most confused look I have ever seen. He starts tapping the motherboard with his screwdriver. "Is this the hard drive, isn't it?" he asks. I let out a giggle. Then, he proceeds to try to take out the ram. At this point, I am actually more worried about his computer that I am him. Throughout the entire taking apart of his computer, he did not even THINK of switching it off, and now he is trying to take out the RAM. I was seriously contemplating whether or not I should help him (He was an asshole, after all.. but did he deserve to get his Mac broken because of his own stupidity?) I decided to carry on watching. He slowly starts unscrewing all the screws to the motherboard and battery. I am partially scared, and partially amazed that he managed to find a tri-wing screwdriver to take the battery out with. Finally, I can't take it anymore. I ask him, "Hey, did you make sure to ground yourself before working on that computer?" He looks at me and scoffs, claiming that he knows what he has been doing. Reluctantly, I backed down. Then, he tries to pull out the battery (the battery is right above the trackpad, if you didn't know). He notices that he forgot to take out a screw. Instead of taking it out, he tries to pull out the battery by brute force. He ends up bending the little bracket that holds the battery screws in place. To fix it, he decides to hit his Mac with such a force that it would probably knock out the computer if it had a consciousness. He puts the computer back together and flips it around (no need to boot up because he didn't turn it off in the first place). He opens the computer, and by some miracle that even Jesus himself could not explain, the trackpad actually started working. Now I don't know if it was because of him hitting the battery, or if it was God trying to mess with me, but it actually freaking worked. He fixed something. He turns to me, with the most cocky look I have ever seen in my life, and smirks. "See, I told you I know what I'm doing". The bell rings, he leaves for his next class, and I am in the left in the library with the most confused look that has ever graced the face of a human being.

You've gotta be kidding me.. how did that work xD

I didn't know some schools blocked right click...talk about control freak... Any way, from what I remember because it was quite a while ago, she was trying to copy and paste a URL from one of the folders at school to google so she may have known how to do it on word but not on anything else maybe. but still...
