Apparently Samsung hired 500 fake fans for Galaxy S6 China launch according to Chinese site, The Paper (Via: WantChinaTimes), the Korean device maker paid around 500 people to attend its event, most of which were actually iPhone users.

Samsung didn’t go out and find all of these people by itself . A person who specializes in recruiting people for these sort of jobs bought over 100 people to the event and paid them ¥20 each, which works out as little over £2.
 

The other recruiters involved with the event managed to round-up a further 400 people to attend. Only one thousand people were invited to the event, so these fake fans accounted for half of the total attendance. One woman was reportedly hired by Samsung directly and was paid ¥50 or just over a fiver here in the UK, she was only required to stay at the event for 15 minutes or so.


Samsung instructed everyone involved to tell reporters at the event that they were interested in checking out Samsung’s brand new flagship devices. They were also given instructions for promoting the event via social media, although Samsung did not tell anyone to leave their iPhones at home, so most pictures taken there were on an Apple device.

Samsung has yet to comment on the report coming straight from China. However, it does show that the company is desperate to regain traction in China, following the launch of the iPhone in the country last year.

lol, that is a really desperate move by Samsung. Although getting 500 people for just over 1000 pounds is not that bad actually.

At least Apple doesn't need to pay people to show up, far from it. Apple makes you pay nearly 2 grand for a ticket to be at its events. 

 

Kinda sad that Samsung cares so much about petty crap like this. You don't have Apple's rabid fringe fanbase, stop trying to pretend that you ever will.

Guys you need to wake up to the real world... I don't get why this is news... is it because of the number of people... 500?

This is a standard procedure everywhere in the world... ok maybe not in 3rd world countrys... but yeah, paying people to attend events it's a common thing - specially if you want to have control over the event.

Hell, you get paid to be in the audience of TV Shows, partys, events... jesus christ there's people who make a living with this.

Is 500 people alot? In China?! Fuck no! That's probably the equivalent of paying 50 people to attend a event, in any other part of the world. I bet with you in India they could gather 5000 with the same budget.

But hey, it's Samsung... gotta hate that shit, am I right?

You guys have to understand that the money they are given is considered alot for such little work. You cant look at its conversion directly and say "oh $3 is nothing", that is very ignorant. There are plenty of poor people in China, and 20-50 yuan is big money to many. You have to consider what that can buy locally. I know 20-50 yuan can buy heaps more than $2-3 can in their own country.

Also, while i dont feel that this is a good thing to do, i do understand samsung's mentality when doing this. As Chinese people are very about their image, and will likely buy whatever is most popular, hence a very large portion of iphone users, It is very hard to crack into a market full of people who are incredibly blind to alternatives and would only accept popular/famous brands. so your only option is to buff yourself artificially. 

 

Before anyone tries to have a go at me, i will say that i am Chinese and i know what it is like personally.

Is this even confirmed? :/ I don ;t know even the sources linked above say they might have done so only, nothing concrete. Also -> http://techcrunch.com/2015/04/05/samsung-denies-paying-people-to-attend-galaxy-s6-launch-event-in-china/and this article is  3 days old. I don;t know we diss on ppl reporting about rumors about fake 390X graphs and specs, why is it different for real news?
