the us cant even sort outs its internet let alone education.  i mean this is a country that cant get health care right. the us, where the rich get richer and the should die and do us all a favor....please ill take the uk over the us anyday

As far as the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, the UK isn't much better off. Especially once the socialists really take hold.

As far as healthcare goes, I'd rather not pay for healthcare for other people, when I'm not using that healthcare anyways. Yeah, your healthcare isn't actually free, don't even bother going there.

If you make over 30,000 pounds (I don't have the symbol on my keyboard), you pay a tax rate of 40%, nearly half of your income. Fuck that.

People with the standard Personal Allowance start paying this rate on income over £10,000 Higher rate 40% £31,866 to £150,000

People with the standard Personal Allowance start paying this rate on income over £41,866 Additional rate 45% Over £150,000

so if you earn £30K you pay 20%.

I'll never understand this irrational fear towards socialism.  Americans have a program that is based upon socialism — Social Security.  A lot of the complaints about Congress have to do with the fact that businesses have been able to influence laws through financial means.  This is not what socialism is.

as for tax we pay 20% after our allowance of 10 grand where you got 40% from i have no idea.

Because the US and Russia were/are enemies, and because communism/socialism etc. That alone is reason enough for the U.S. to fear socialism and denounce it, even if the US ironically embraces socialistic ideals at every corner.

Hey, I've been watching porn since I was 11-ish, and I've turned out alright!

Right? RIGHT?! sweating.gif

(Note to our younger members: Free porn was much harder to find back then

than it is these days...)

no it wasn't. All i needed was the hidden playboy stash of my father's friend and my good ol' polaroid. Instant porn!

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

Out of interest, would it change any of your opinions to learn that this article is talking about children between the ages of 4 and 11? A group of head teachers consider it legally neglectful to not vet the content children this age are exposed to. Considering that we aren't talking about 14-16 year olds but actual infants in some cases, aren't they right?

I dunno, having just actually read the article (and a version on the Guardian, which is much more reliable than The Express), I think OP was being extremely sensationalist here.

...Children need to learn how to act at a young age so that when they grow up they know how to act like a respectable adult. Children who are exposed to foul language are more likely to use it often when they are older, ive heard plenty "adults" who can't string a sentence together without including at least one swear word and I can only suggest and/or point this at the fact that as a child they were exposed to consistent foul language.

And yes as an adult I do swear but I know when its not appropriate to use that kind of language, if children are playing games that fling that sort of language around like its normal then they will more than likely assume its normal to use it in day to day life.

I have found that those who are forbidden from swearing or don't know of swear words at a

young age tend to be the ones who most liberally and least sensibly use such words later

in life. :)

I am typically of the belief that children should not be hidden away from some of the

potentially important aspects of life they will face when they are older. Swearing is very

much a part of life, like it or not, and shielding children from it will not prevent that. If

anything it compounds the problem - as soon as they become aware of swearing, or are

finally old enough to begin using it without parental intervention, they'll abuse their newly

discovered vocabulary. Now this isn't to say that I think we should shout and swear at

children, that would be awful - but I do think that we should gently make it aware to them

of the existence of such words, and teach them of their expected usage. Without talking to

the kids and educating them on when it is and is not acceptable to swear, how can you

possibly expect them to magically get it right when they are supposedly old enough to

use such words?

And that brings me back on topic: shielding children from violent video games won't solve

anything. Instead, parents who allow their children to play these games should do so

whilst ensuring that they don't exhibit any worrying behaviours or attitudes as a result of

playing them. They should also educate their children on video games, and reinforce

that they don't represent reality. As long as parents act responsibly and considerately,

I see no problem whatsoever with allowing their children to play violent video games.

Swear words are just words though, there's two sides to this argument, one was what you said, and the other is swear out and be sane, just because i don't know the swear words, i'll still yell something at someone when provoked, it's about letting the steam blow off, i've posted this before, got buried, i'm gonna post this again here , there have been studies regarding this

Nonetheless, there are circumstances in which it is not appropriate to swear. My point was that

in my experience, those who have grown up ignorant of swear words or being forbidden from

using them have tended to be less capable of using the words in a socially acceptable manner.

It's naturally not a universal truth, and seeing as I'm saying this based purely on my personal

experience it is admittedly speculative at best. But whether true or not, I would suggest that

ultimately the deciding factor of one's ability to responsibly use swear words is how they've

been brought up to think of them. Those exposed to swear words constantly will likely lack

an awareness that they are sometimes not socially acceptable to use - meanwhile those that

are not made aware of their existence whatsoever will also completely lack the knowledge of

how and when to use them when they eventually come across them.

I was raised with not knowing any swear words, so when i get angry or want to make my point clear i yell the words that i am trying to explain anyway, just "argh" in my mind, but i don't know how would that affect my behavior over time. from my experience, just because someone doesn't swear doesn't make then holy, infact i believe the person who's silent tend to be more dangerous/aggressive behavior

Oh, yeah - I would agree that how often one swears doesn't necessarily mean anything

other than how often one swears.

Anyway, as much as I find this discussion interesting we should probably get back on

"A group of primary schools has sent a letter home to parents warning them that they will call in the police and social services if children reveal in the playground that they have been playing adult-themed games.

The schools said the games could increase "early sexualised behaviours" and could even leave children open to sexual exploitation.

The bizarre ultimatum was issued by headteachers at the Nantwich Education Partnership, in Cheshire, which oversees 15 primary schools and one secondary academy."

Just take away the damn console or PC in the first place. I'm pretty sure the kids didn't buy it. If they have enough money TO buy something like a $500 console then you're spoiling your children excessively and you need to rethink your role as a parent.

Limits need to be set, discipline enforced.

This is just plain stupid. I really dont give a piece of bull crap if my school blocks 17+ games on my school owned iPad or if they block Minecraft servers at school because it's THEIR device and THEIR network. Now if they were to report me to the cops for playing CoD at home, that would be over the top. They have no business in my personal life.

How often are you in social situations?  There are a lot of people out there.  You just may need to find a group that focuses on something of interest to you (kind of like here), and interact with them in those settings.  Nerdy women do exist; that should be evident based upon modern gaming research.

It looks like the article is a little misleading, While they should not talk about video games because they clearly have no idea, they did mention one important thing:  when school children start talking about witnessing inappropriate sexualised material at home, that is a cause for concern, we are talking about kids under 10 here, not teenagers sifting through the old mans porn stash (which is a normal part of male development).

Reporting that an 11 year old is playing COD would largely be ignored by most agencies (which makes most of the article laughable), however mandatory reporting in most countries will have the teacher calling social services for any signs of sexually inappropriate knowledge regardless of whether it comes from a video game, dvd, magazine or from the mouths of other people.

now that is a much better article and really puts forward some concepts that were severely over looked in the last.  As someone who works in education I have witnessed what this teacher is saying first hand.  It is different in every situation and can't be blanket generalized into problem A or problem B.  but definitely parents who don't know or care what their kids are upto is a problem and one that has a big effect on the child's schooling.
