Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

Not a whole lot for me but I do regret buying a bio star motherboard and going AMD.. this was like 7 years ago though so I don't know how relevant it is today but my god was AMD awful.

7 years ago AMD was better than Intel

All I can say is from my experience, I had a AMD PC and a Intel PC very very similar specs, they were both single cores around the time of Pentium 4. I just remember the intel pc out performing the AMD one.

I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings, I just have never had a good experience when I went AMD, that's all.

Razer Deathadder 3.5G , first mouse I bought. Saw it in the shop and I had heard some good things about it. It does its job but the lift off distance drove me crazy for gaming. It is also so flimsy and the clicks don't feel satisfying at all.

Feel free to bash me all you want, but for me it has to be a CM Storm quickfire rapid keyboard w/ MX blues. The keyboard is definitely great as far as build quality and all, but the key feel is honestly nothing amazing, and despite having used it for nearly a year, I still type faster and more accurately on a chiclet keyboard.

I just bought this keyboard and I'm using it now :( I love it.

My first PC build I used a Rosewill case and it was pretty bad. The front ports were going out on me and I didn't feel like going through Rosewill to RMA or see if it had a warranty so I just bought the NZXT S340 and I love it!

i took a few bad decisions in making my first custom PC:

1) Bought a Core2Duo in the age of 3rd gen i7

2)Got a local 500w PSU which turns out to be a 288w PSU

3) Got a GT210 in the age of.........ummmmm............GTX500 series

4) upgrading from a GT210 to GT630

Then 2 years passed and i got another upgrade on 28 July(My Birthday). I got an i5 4690k, but:

1) I asked an expert to get the CPU and a Z series motherboard and he got me a Gigabyte B85M-D3H *sigh*

2) Got a Brand new GTX660 in the age of GTX780ti.

3) To run that GPU i also got a Cooler Master Thunder 600w PSU which many claim is SHIT.

and to top it all off:

4) Got the CPU and MOBO and PSU from the market(could have saved as much as $50 if i got it online)*PS $50 is a lot of money here in India especially if you are middle class*

5)Purchased GTX660 from Amazon.in where it was more expensive than Flipkart or Snapdeal.

:/:/

So........ what about you???? what all bad decisions did you take building a PC?

PS: i know that my mistakes are nothing major but oh well....

I wish I never bothered with an APU. I'm sure it's bottle necking my 760 and im at a dead end with FM2+ meaning i'll likely have to upgrade my motherboard and CPU at the same time.

Non-modular PSU, and an Aerocool case.

Never again.

Edit:

I also have even more cable clutter because I have PSU extensions (not a new set, because no modularity), and on top of that, I got a H440 just recently with the extensions, and the room on the right side panel is horrid.

Cable management legitimately took two and a half hours.

ALL THESE BLOODY CABLES.

I installed the motherboard in my case, thinking i would wait with installing the CPU cooler since my case had a cut-out. Only to find out when i was done installing everything else that the cut-out wasn't aligned properly, making it impossible to install the CPU cooler without removing the whole motherboard... :P

I didn't make my PC, but I wish I would have gotten an Intel CPU, rather than this AMD one :(

My card is plenty powerful but I don't wanna throw it just to get 970s or 980s it's the same with wanting a custom loop, I have no issues with my h100i would be a shame to bin good hardware

-Gettin 16gb of ram (Could have gotten a r9 290 without spending an extra $100 on ram)

-not waiting for new components (r9 290 with aftermarket coolers were not available at that time)

-gettin a useless led strip (The case fans and ram led were already bright enough)

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case
