First time builder gaming

rick322

In total i am trying to keep this build at around $900 (monitor included)

I have decided on the AMD FX 8320 Black Edition, for the CPU  I am able to get in from amazon for $150 because of Prime

I have also decided on 2TB WD BGreen for storage. $80 on amazon

RAM I am undecided (8gb at least plz)

GPU undecided (know little about)

Mobo (know NOTHING AT ALL)

Also need cpu fans and a case

Don't need an OS

SSD optional

Well for games I would like to be able to play pretty much all valve games on med-high settings.  I would like to be able to also play bioshock, Sniper Elite FEAR, fallout, skyrim on at least medium all at 1080p.  Other games would include (they are not too demanding, America's Army, CS:Go, Combat Arms)

Thank you for the help.

ps(plz no intel fanboys telling me amd sucks and go with intel instead)

Ram, find the best price per gb ddr3. Gpu depending on budget id say a r7 270x, r9 if you can afford it and mobo find a decent asus board in your price range that is compatible.

Cpu fans find whatevers a good price and high rpm (if you dont care about sound). Case is down to preference (read some reviews)

SO you want to keep the 8320? If I recommend a G3258 you wouldn't like it? Cause the G3258 beats the 4790k (stock speeds) at MOST games with a good amount of overclock

The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

I know you really don't want to hear it but hopefully seeing as I've been a long time fan of AMD and am currently running an AMD octocore my voice will carry a little more weight.
The extra $25 you spend to get even a locked i5 will make such a big difference that it will be worth it, I'm running an 8120 because at the time I thought it would be a good idea, I thoroughly regret that decision.

Assuming that you also need the OS this is the build I would recommend.

Helpful and it is cheaper to me cause I have at least some unused windows 7 disks and keys, don't really need an SSD(should of included that in the OP)

The FX CPU architecture is old, and slow.  The 8-core CPU does not have 8 independent cores.  The cores are setup in pairs called modules.  These modules share resources.  The IPC (instructions per clock) has not really been improved for over 5 years.

This is why Intel CPU are so highly recommended,  Intel has been improving their architecture, and consequently their CPU IPC, steadily for all that time.  Currently, Intel CPUs can deal with 40%-50% more instructions than the AMD CPUs.

$900 USD is a lot of money to settle for a proven inferior component when there is a much better option.

thank you for that

No problem!

I totally agree with you, people never give a valid point why Intel is better.

Also that website has MANY more benchmarks of everything, might wanna check it out!

Maybe because it performs better in 98% of Applications?

(keep in mind bottom 2 are using the better than 8320 CPU)

This would be the best build for that Budget.

Because of roughly 5% IPC improvements each generation, a $175 i5-4440 performs at the same level as the i5-2500k at stock shown here:

Yeah, the price has dropped a decent amount since launch.  It is right in between the R9280 and the R9 280X.

Personally I don't find enticing the word I would use.  As in my own purchase of an R9 280, it was what my budget allowed.  I would rather have a GTX 970

R9 280 keeps up with the GTX 960 (although the 960 seems to edge it out most of the time), and you get 1 GB more VRAM (384-bit memory bus).  If you have enough for a 280X, definitely go with that over the 960.

I saw opposite reviews about the 960 being a waste. Some tech reviews on youtube saying it added nothing to the market. It's not better than the 760ti by enough to suggest it's price tag and the 770 beats it as well as the 280X. AND...  You can get a used GTX 770 4 Gb for the same price as this new. So...what card is better? That's the question.

I'm seeing mixed reviews though head to head. If the card is same price... 770 would do. If 960 is cheaper with 4 Gb at any time...there ya go.
