Nvidia just posted this on Twitter: This is TITAN X

Jobbe03

*slow clap*

JUST GREAT this is original Titan all over again. I'm just going to patiently wait till May when they announce 6GB 980 Ti.. And laugh even harder when AMD decides to announce 390X within the next few weeks that matches its performance for half the cost.

I guess you fail to understand the Titan line then. The word value and the word Titan shouldn't be used in the same sentence unless the phrase "does not offer good" is directly in between the two words.

Equivocating value to the Titan is like asking why an Aventador doesn't cost 45 grand.

Except there won't be a 980 Ti. Nvidia doesn't mix and match product names with different chips. Ti always signifies a fully unlocked core, and the 980 is already fully unlocked.

Ahh I see so then this is going to be the flagship card of the 1000 series (Maxwell refresh) I assume. Just like original Titan got announced and 700 series released soon after.

Oh I know that but it still doesn't change the fact that I dislike Nvidia marketing their Titan series gpus as gaming cards when in reality they're truly meant for workstation professionals who want a hybrid gaming/ work card.

But the 390X will be it for AMD. Top of the hill. For all we know the 980 Ti will stomp it once they announce it after. And then Nvidia will come back at the end with the uber Titan X Black.

This is what happens when you're last to the starting line. You don't get to set the marketing and product release pace. AMD has to play catch-up. Nvidia can release more and more powerful cards as they please. 980 Ti and Titan X sales won't amount to even 10% I reckon, but its all about the brand power and marketing.

390X & Titan X are going to be neck and neck. I doubt Nvidia is going to have anything even more powerful than Titan X until they release pascal 16nm.

We never got a 6GB 780ti because that would cannibalize Titan sales. We didn't get an early 780 (not the same core count, I know, but similar enough) because of the original Titan. You know, actual gaming GPUs that don't cost 1000 bucks because of features that are irrelevant to gaming.

AMD R9 295x2 is under $1000. AMD is always an option.

If you think about it by now releasing this new Titan it puts a performance ceiling on any other GPU they release till the next series drops, since they wont want to come within a certain percentage of performance to the new Titan. So in a way it does hold back further advances in performance at least till the next generation of gaming GPU's

You do know AMD exists.

Yes, they held back the release of the 780 and of a 6GB 780ti. I'm not "upset" that they cost a lot, I'm upset that they are marketed as gaming GPUs, presented as developer cards and end up being glorified "early releases" or higher memory versions for literally double the price. That's bullshit, there's a good reason why quadro and geforce GPUs exist, the Titan is an inbetween bastard that holds back specific releases and cards for the gaming crowd because they can sell it at double the price. Defending it makes no sense, why would you willingly pay double the price for the same GPU that you could have otherwise?

No, AMD still exists so it's not holding back anything.
