Nintendo says it can't keep up with applications to its 'Creators Program'

GoodBytes

Nintendo is saying that it has received so many applications to join Nintendo program for its controversial "Creators Program", that processing will take more time than normal.

Screen_Shot_2015-02-07_at_10.48.48_AM.0.

In addition, Nintendo is giving 2 weeks for new joiners to remove all content that is:

-> Not Nintendo games

-> Not part of the approved list of games from Nintendo. (Smash Brothers is not part of that list). Here is the small list of Nintendo games allowed: https://r.ncp.nintendo.net/whitelist/

If they do not conform, than Nintendo has the right, as it is now a YouTube MCN (Multi-channel network), to shutdown the channel that joined in, and the creator will lose all its videos, and its channel, as per contractual agreement with Nintendo when joining in the Creators Program.

Joining the Creators Program will make Nintendo take 40% of the revenue generated by ads, even on videos which contains no Nintendo related content.

I don't know what to think. I don't know if it is some sort of publicity stunt by Nintendo and that in reality the number of applications aren't high, or it is DLC story all over again, where many people said how gamers should not spend 10-10$ on silly DLC content like color swap on characters, yet the majority of people just gives in, and now DLC and day-one DLC is standard practice in the gaming world. If it is indeed successful, I expect other companies to do the same.

Yeah.. It would have been cool if you would be able to upload Smash Bros. and such..

They really shot themselves in the foot with that..

I expected a lot of people to apply though

Why the fuck do you do this Nintendo? I think I might upload a test video of an NES game in an emulator to see what happens (on a bogus account, of course).

60% isn't a small percentage, but still.

Honestly, the only practical use is for somebody to create an alt channel to partner through Nintendo and still receive ad revenue, considering how locked down Nintendo is as an MCN.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Perhaps this is a really good way to get nintendo to stop this shit. We could all make 10 new youtube channels and upload nintendo copyrighted videos and apply to their creator channel. It might get them to stop hopefully.

It's like they are the government or something.

The government is giving you back services, services that has been asked by the population. It may not be of any interest to you, but others in your state or province are.

Nintendo, is taking money from you for doing what is inevitability is: free advertisement.

So, Nintendo is winning twice. The advertisement in getting a game known, and talked about, and now from ad revenue for those who actually produce content for a living.

That is the big problem.

One day Nintendo will understand how the online age works.

Not today however.

It's a shame. On the Wii U end, I really like what they are doing. It's a console, and a true one at that. PCMR and all, a lot of us defend the Wii U I've noticed. It's not the same cancer on the gaming industry that sony and MS are.

But this youtube policy is another story.

This is so infuriating to me... The math that some are missing here is that YouTube also takes their 40%.so the creator is only getting 60% of 60% of the total adsense money.

That's!....

(Math intensifies)

36 cents on the  dollar!

What the fuck?

@LinusTech

Honestly its absurd , youtube video creators give FREE advertisement most of the times to companies and games.

It would be like AMD or NVIDIA saying

"Hmm you want to review our product , we made it so we need a cut of the add revenue"

Makes no sense at all.

Do they not want free promotion and word of mouth?

This just damages their reputation.

All it means is that anyone with any actual reach (100,000+ subs or so) will never play Nintendo games again. Hell, they lost 30 million potential customers at PewDiePies channel alone, another 12 million at Roosterteeth.

You should add the list of the very few whitelisted games to the OP https://r.ncp.nintendo.net/whitelist/

The 10 Wii U titles wouldn't even need to be included in a spoiler as there are so few.

Nintendo has a very recent history of grossly underestimating demand. The WiiU gamecube controller adapters, and every round of amiibo's without refreshing previous stock comes to mind. I would bet money on and there being a lack of New 3DS consoles available over the next couple months in the North America too.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Not sure if I'm reading getting this correctly but...

Nintendo is now a MCN in which you sign and are allowed to upload Nintendo related content but you have to take down non-nintendo related content as well? So are you limiting yourself to only Nintendo games?
