It's for phones, it'd better be small.

Why didn't they make two sizes like every single connector before this one?

So is usb 3.1 double ended(phone style input) or is the  normal usb port reversible too?

I am pretty sure it is for everything

edit: maybe I am wrong ...

edit2: or not ... wiki: "The Type-C plug will be used at both host and device side, replacing multiple Type-B and Type-A connectors and cables with a future-proof standard similar to Apple Lightning and Thunderbolt"

Great... Now we get small and fragile connectors even on motherboards?
I really hope this is the micro version.

I'm pretty sure all 3.1 will be reversible.

3.1 is reversible

The design should be more robust than Micro-B while being faster.

Looked at that video so many times. So 3 way sli supported (no point really on Z97 though), M.2, decent amount of SATA ports, and thats about it. I really wanted to see a little under that heatsink and see how many phases it has... Oh well. usb is cool i guess

The connector looks WAY too weak. He should not have been able to remove the cable with one hand. The last thing I need is my mouse coming unplugged every time I move it. Also the connector design is poorly thought out, the first time a kid shoves a usb drive into the port a bit too roughly(because face it, kids treat computers like garbage) the center pin will break rendering the port useless. USB ports need to withstand being used 1000s of times during their lifetime and type C looks fragile. Bad standard is bad and I hope it follows the path of firewire.

Um, edit this please. All USB 3.1 connectors are USB 3. 3.1 is a hardware revision, not something that can be fixed on old USB 3.0 ports.

If they were really serious about implementing this, I wish they had given the motherboard more than one port. We need like six of these things. It's not Thunderbolt or eSATA. It's freaking USB,

It's a display model, not a final product. Of that you can be assured.

X99A Gaming 9 ACK

It almost looks like a Micro ITX board.

Not sure about that, the Z97 board you saw was also called Z97A

Maybe the A is just to indicate that there's usb 3.1 on it?

The second board you saw there with the gpu on it was an X99 board

Edit: totally misread your comment lol, yea that indeed looks like a micro ITX board :P
