14900k or 7800X3D?

So i am a gamer and a video editor and i am also want to start with 3d modeling, gaming is probably the main concern.

What should i buy a 14900k or a 7800X3D?

(BTW i am not gonna buy either of this CPU's i am just interested to know)

Intel are better for overall general use and productivity, so the 14900k would help with the video editing. For a pure gaming rig AMD is normally the way to go

Yeah of course, but intel will have the slight edge.

-> Moved to CPUs, Motherboards and Memory

Also edited to title to be more descriptive. We don't allow X vs Y threads, such as Intel vs AMD. But you can ask question with something realistic. Like which CPU would be better for your chosen workload.

If you do CPU rendering for 3D applications then the Intel CPU will be faster but I'm assuming for 3D modeling you'll use your GPU most of the time so either CPU will be barely used... in which case the 7800X3D is a better gaming CPU.

If gaming the the top priority by far:

Save money with the 7800x3d.

If you want to video edit and have that be betteR?

The 14900k is going to smoke the 7800x3d there.

They aren't really comparable, not same category, vs a 14900K you should put a 7950X3D

And I'd get the 7950X3D, 14900K is a nightmare to cool and not efficient, even if it's faster in rendering (and equivalent in gaming)

I heard about all kinds of performance issues with the 7950x3d

From what I've seen, worst thing that can happen is that a game plays on the non 3D cached cores and then has a 7950X non 3D performance ...

Then no AM5 chip really works well with 4 RAM sticks, not especially the 7950X3D

This depends on what type of 3D model software you're using. Blender and Maya are both very GPU intensive applications, but 2D programs like AutoCAD, or 3D parasolid programs like TinkerCAD, sketchup, Fusion 360 or Solidworks are very CPU bound (specifically high IPC, high frequency single core).

You should be fine with either CPU then.

I'm just bought the 7800x3D and I'm using Inventor (another Parasolid program that prefers high IPC) and it performs amazingly. I also dabble loosely in video editing with premier, but currently I'm using the CUDA cores on the RTX 4080 to render.

Yeah I probably will go 5090 after it's release

14900k will soar high past that, almost halving the time. Skimming over the rest of your post 7800X3D will be best if you're mainly gaming. Though the 14700k is around the same price as the 7800X3D and about the same in the games where the extra cache isn't favoured as heavily and performs a lot better in blender

if you want a good all round the 14700k will give a good experience, 7800X3D wins in essentially every single game (bar a few games which favour intel and its higher clocks)

if you're using shaders then cpu won't matter too much for this game, if you're using a lot of mods without shaders then a 14700k would be better for minecraft (but 7800X3D isn't bad for it)

they're basically identical for performance (7800X3D uses about 20W less though

then definitely

you don't even need to spend more than $2500 (though 4090 is quite bad value, 4080 super is better for gaming and productivity, 7900 XTX if just gaming and not using the gpu for productivity, since you're 3D modelling which uses the GPU the 4080 super is the one)
