Windows 10 Insider Topic

Gachr

Ok, my problem with Windows 10 got fixed.

The App Store had App updates (including itself). It didn't execute the update automatically. I manually started them, and once done, and restarted my system (had to... all updated apps didnt' want to run anymore), and now everything works perfectly.

So ordinary transparency makes the start menu a flat black but slightly transparent...
While actual Aero Glass (blur they call it?), makes it more grey-ish.. and makes anything behind it blured out.

If they can fix the huge blurry spot that sometimes stay behind on the desktop when closing the start menu, that'd be great, otherwise I will have to vote for ordinary transparency...

Low power tablets aren't quick enough to make the blur effect go away instantly, and the way they are currently doing it, they seems to just be putting a huge blur effect on top of the menu and it doesn't go away quick enough.. which means there's still a huge blurry rectangle on the desktop even when the start menu is closed, for a second or so.

Personally, I wanted Glass effect on every window.. not just the start menu... I don't care about Start or the Taskbar. I want to get rid of the flat ugly colors at the top of all my window.

I don't have this issue, sounds like a AMD driver bug.

I think Microsoft will have an option to disable Aero style blur effect (just have transparency), if people like it to have it, and not just happy with transparency. So it won't be an issue.

I doubt it will be an issue in any case, as Aero has been easy to render for Intel integrated graphics since like what? 2007 or 08? Doubt low end tablets will have a genuine issue.

There is a way to disable the transparency effect. I don't know where it is but there is a value that you can change to 0.

Dell Venue 8 Pro. Intel Based.

No issue with just Transparency at all, it's been working great. But the way they are currently handling the Aero Glass type of transparency (blur), is basically just a Layer they add on top of the Start Menu, instead of making the start menu and the blur effect and single entity. The blurry layer doesn't go away fast enough, making it noticeable on the desktop due to lag.

I'm guessing microsoft is thinking Tablet users will only use Tablet Mode, which puts the Start menu in FullScreen only and Aero Glass effect doesn't exist on it (yet). Which is what I'd do... if they let me use the actual Desktop while in tablet mode...

So apparently the AMD drivers for mobile APUs is broken for me. I've spent all weekend trying to figure out why Windows is having issues booting up.

I recommend that people avoid installing AMD CCC on this current build.

Does anybody have a message when they try to open a "Modern App" it doesn't open, and/or a message appears reading "explorer.EXE Element Not found"

I've found the issue to be related to my graphics driver, for the Intel Iris 5100 in my laptop that runs Windows 10 Build 9926 64-bit

anyone else have that problem..?

The update to the next preview build failed (10####, I have no idea), so I'll have to do a reinstall of Windows 10 (hopefully not)

It has had a history of failed updates for Windows 8.1

Nvidia released Windows 10 beta drivers. Get them on Nvidia website, see if that helps. I just finished installing build 10074. It took 3min (yes, only 3!) via USB 3.0! Amazing! Make that 4min if you include the first startup "getting things ready".

Does the App Store works for you? It loads fine at first, but say you want to install Music Preview app, it can't find any results from search and instead shows an error that the "Server Stumbled". Says: Error code 1 (at the bottom of the app)

Did it delete all your stuff when you did your install? I'm really unfamiliar with the new Windows

If you do a clean install, it works like any previous version of Windows. You first get the ISO (available on Microsoft website. Windows 10 Preview page). And boot from the disk or USB flash drive which you extracted the ISO to (use Windows ISO to USB/DVD tool for USB flash drive, as it needs to make it bootable), and boot from it. When you'll do, you'll see the familiar Windows setup screen. It will format the previous version of Windows, and clean install. All previous data will be lost, so you need to backup your stuff. If you choose not to format, the setup will move everything into a folder called "Windows.OLD" and install Windows normally cleanly. It is best to backup your stuff regardless in the case things goes wrong.

Only if you upgrade from one build to another, your data and programs will transfer. You upgrade Windows 10 to the new build when it is released, via Windows Update. It is like installing Windows 8.1 from 8.0, or kinda like a Service Pack.

funny thing is on the pc i tested on build transfers always screwed and clean installs always worked perfectly. Yet the windows 7 it used to run updated fine of course. The updating process is yet finished by the look of it.

Microsoft released KB3062095 update for Windows 10.

Start Menu is not a "task". you cannot Alt+Tab to or from it. To cancel out of the StartStart Menu, press Escape or "Esc". Many games self terminate if a "task" change occurs or Alt+Tab is detected.

I used to be able to quickly switch between power profiles by clicking the Battery icon in the taskbar, but now all I get is Battey Saver and Brightness Toggles. And the Power and Sleep link brings me to a battery menu, and I have to click Power and Sleep from that menu to show the option to go to "advanced" options where I can switch between power profiles.

I was going to put Win 10 on an alternate pc to bring back to life started the first download left the room, and came back with my cat on my keyboard and a program starting to run for 10.

I right clicked and was able to close the program from further updating but a notification stated Windows 10 is ready to start downloading and seen a Windows Update logo in the clock

clicked and it requires a 2+ GB download.

I tried to right click and hide the update but it keeps popping up whenever I start up is in Windows Update

How can I remove this to keep my Windows 7 from going to 10 I just got a SSD 500GB and wanted a known setup on it!

If I'm in the wrong place please send to a moderator to link me to the right place. Thanks in advance. Juggawest

good news boys, 10114 leaked and in it you can customize the start menu with any shortcuts you want, though in that build it seems the feature is WIP since all the toggles are gray and say ON

this is one of the greatest thing that has happened to me recently, and it happened on this forum, those involved have my eternal gratitude http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/198850-update-alex-got-his-moto-g2-lets-get-a-moto-g-for-alexgoeshigh-unofficial/ :')

At least the start menu is starting to look much better. I thought the re-sizable start menu was one of the stupidest ideas.
