Clearly were already on LTT Forum, its not like its a replacement.  I barely use Reddit as I think its UI sucks, though there is no denying its a big source of information when doing web searches.

Eerrhh, I only opened Reddit when I am trying to either :

1. Troubleshoot some shit (info gathering) for myself

2. Trying to get some info to help a "Help me" post in this forum

3. The brand of whatever that I am using too lazy/cheap to make a proper forum and they made subreddit instead.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

Myself, I came to here and Vogons for retro stuff to move on from Reddit for tech news/discussions.

 

One thing that I like to do is googling a problem and adding "reddit" to the end to get the answer. There's way too many useless click bait spam pages around to get any sort of helpful info these days. If Reddit doubles down and all these subs close down permanently, it'll end up killing that search method along with it.

I only go to Reddit on my PC using oldreddit so none of this API stuff is going to bother me, i totally feel for everyone though, if they were putting oldreddit on the chopping block, i'd be gone.

This is why this is such a big deal. These alternative apps give us a much better interface. I've been using Boost for years now.

API changes to the pricing (IE: charging way too much) which will likely impact moderation abilities by causing third party apps to shut down. Right now the first party reddit client sucks butt when it comes to moderation tools.

Reddit is by far the most used app on my phone. If I'm ever waiting around somewhere alone, I'll usually open Apollo and read something to pass the time. I'm not going anywhere near the cesspit that's modern Twitter. 

 

Spez is supposed to be doing an AMA today regarding the update, and I can only imagine how that's going to go. As per usual, some people have said that this might be a dark pattern. Throw a ridiculous API price out there only to dial it back a bit to make it seem not as harmful.

I only use it when I google search something and it ends up on a Reddit post.  I don't surf it (it's way too unweildy).  I think I posted once, on a thread about Pi-holes.
