Heat cycling hardware is far worse on it than letting it get to and maintain a steady state.  It will break down the TIM (thermal paste/pad/etc) so that it doesn't work as well.  Also, for the GPU, just turn the power limit down when you're not gaming and if it can't hit the OC clocks, it won't...it'll just be more efficient and very fine for long term running.  For the CPU, as long as you don't have a permanent overvoltage on it to hit your clocks, and thermals are in check, it also should be fine forever.

But like I still don't like the idea of a 10+ hours unsupervised PC that throughout the whole time utilises hardware quite decently.

 

Another thing being thought of electricity bill someone else is paying..

 

I got my workaround ready though, I'll set up Sheaduler to turn off PC about 20-30 minutes after ETA of the WU.

Make sure you click Finish or Stop Folding - Finish up, then Stop so that you do not get requested another WU.  Not sure, but once its paused it might let Windows suspend the PC as it will be idle.

It lets turn off PC, regardless of fold or not but good idea would be to make the checkpoints 1 minute since it's going to suddenly power down.

I've done this before but I hoped I didn't have to bother with it again...

When your heading out just click "Finish" in Advanced Control and it will finish any existing WUs then pause until you tell it to resume folding again

 

I believe the user-defined checkpoint interval is over-ridden by forced checkpoints in most WUs these days.

Well, I spent part of today tuning some under-volt of my GPU so that I can run my two systems off of the same UPS system, substantially dropped my power use while considerably increasing my production. Started folding on my HTPC as well, tomorrow should tell how that turns out

So as it turns out, 5800H is very thermally limited, 3050ti likes it warm? 

Also went extreme on cooling for 3700U, turned out to be 3.5 hrs too late. Won't complete WU on time.

I absolutely love the effort that goes into getting laptops properly cooled, having done it myself occasionally

I'm interested to see how low my performance is going to be for today. I had to turn off the quad GPU machine as well as the 3080 for a while due to the heat.

Same. I had to power off two of my three machines this morning because it was getting to be well over 90F (32C) in my apartment despite cycling as much air through as possible. Not especially great for sleeping in.

The rest of the week should be much cooler here, thankfully.

It really is. I've been living around the area I'm in for 5 years now and it's never been as warm outside in November as it has been since the event started.

I think it must be a conspiracy.

3050ti has a super overbuilt thermal solution for its power, never goes above 72C-ish

5800H has basically no cooling potential and immediately goes to 95C+ under load.

the 3700u looks like they offer a better cooler but could have been a better Config

Literally my everyday life. Pain has been more sporadic but worse, and ADHD burnout has been getting worse.

Well i found out F@H sucks on AMD based systems with IG and Add on Graphics lol...my G5SE im trying to fold in...it thinks its folding on main GPU bit its Running on the IG...

  

Update: updated to lastest Driver from AMD and BAM it works...now does it smoke...note the 5600m does NOT like biofilm... bad PPD...
