So, about that efficiency thing...

I decided to connect my quad GPU contraption up to my Kill A Watt meter, and honestly the results aren't too surprising. This thing is pulling around 650W when all four GPUs are under a full F@h load with the CPU mostly idle. With a full CPU stress test running at the same time (Prime95 Small FFTs) the system peaked at 720W. During the winter this much heat is fine since I don't have to run the furnace, but during the summer I'm going to try to get some more efficient hardware. A single RTX 3080 gets multiple times as many points as this crazy system while using less power, and that means less heat.

How much power do you guys use with your systems when folding?

Just decided to test this, since I'm uncapping the power limits on my cards to try to help toward the potential billion point day Spec mentioned in the most recent update.

I fold on three machines -- my desktop (1x 3090ti), my server (1x 2060 KO, 1x 1080), and my laptop (1x 3050ti). It's pretty much the limit of what my small apartment can take in terms of heat and breaker tripping. I generally don't fold on the CPU.

At stock settings, the 3090ti system produces ~10M PPD, and pulls 600W at the wall. With power limits tuned for efficiency, it produces ~9.8M PPD, while pulling 480W at the wall. 20% less power, 2% less PPD.

Stock, the 2060+1080 system produces ~3.1M PPD and pulls 600W. Tuned, it produces ~2.8M PPD and pulls 450W. 25% less power, 10% less PPD.

The 3050i system has no power tuning options, the system just pulls a flat 100W in exchange for 1.1M PPD.

So, stock, that's a theoretical ~14.2M PPD for 1300W, or ~10,900 PPD per Watt. Tuned, it's 13.7M PPD  for 1030W, or ~13,300 PPD per Watt. 22% efficiency improvement!

Can't recommend playing with power limits highly enough.

@Alex Atkin UKyou think you can sustain that production for a day more, see if your room overheats or not? xD

I would like to only fold with my GPU, and not my CPU. How do I only have my GPU work and not my CPU? When I hit "Start Folding" in the web control app, it starts both...image.png.f506bdf8a451c5cb59487730844a01b6.png

Keep in mind that I am sometimes wrong, so please correct me if you believe this is the case!

Need to set it to "Full" to get GPU folding engaged.

Hm? I've had it set just earlier today to just use the GPU. Not sure what I did to cause the CPU to start. Don't think it has anything to do with the power settings.

Ahh, thought you were asking why the gpu wasn't going, not why the cpu started.  Open the FAHControl app, or use the @LAR_Systemschrome extension, and you can set a slot to "finish".  Using the FAHControl app you can also remove the CPU "slot", so it won't try to start that next time you start folding.

Interesting, because when I'm folding, and select the CPU slot and hit "stop folding", it stops it for both CPU and GPU.

Alternatively, when I go into the Desktop app I don't see any ability to remove the CPU as an option...?image.png.c41fb57ff8fd3164391fea3e68847549.png

And remove the slot manually. Remember that it *might* add the CPU slot back by itself when you restart the PC, so check on it occasionally. I've noticed my GPU slot adding itself back after restarts, I'm not sure about CPU but it's always worth keeping an eye out

Other than the laptop (its too noisy to sleep with it running) I left everything going and we did reach steady state.

Overnight outdoor temps were somewhere around 6-8C (according to the weather) and my room 21-23C.  (AC said 21 but seems inaccurate when fan is off, wall clock said 23 which is nearer the ceiling)

This was with my door partially open, with it closed it probably would have kept climbing.

Maybe it's the number of slots?

I've recorded two active clients even tho I'm running a single VM (with a. single CPU slot and GPU slot).

F@H site seems to consider one slot a "CPU" (legacy wording before GPU folding presumably).  It also shows all CPU jobs as x86 despite them presumably mostly being x86_64 and some of mine aarch64.

Not sure what software @dogwitchis having issues with showing rogue clients though.

that a desk top 460 4gb. i had prime grid on.  some folding wu dont like it. so its been on and off folding.

i did a bit of digging. past a certain core count it has to split them into another core client.

also with this event. i will have did a half billion wu for ltt team and overall made said amount to. so 2 breaking of a record for myself.

silly question but how do I know if I am in the event?

As I recall trying to sign up but also remember not knowing what my F@H ID was. so a bit worried that I might have dropped the ball for this event. so any help regarding that would be much appreciated!

It looks like you’re in the event and doing pretty good, top half.  Look at the blog post at the top of this page and open the spreadsheet link; click on the sheet for day four.

So, had a hardware casualty today, woke up to find all GPU systems idle and only CPUs slots with long timeframes still running.

My rack routers power supply died in the middle of the night of course while I was sleeping, not while I was AWAKE AND USING THE INTERNET like I am the majority of the time and could have swapped PSUs right away.

I imagine that's going to cost me some drops in rank.

Okay, so now that my internet is back and stable...

Built out a bit of a tool for the event so you can see participants rolling 24 hour PPD including your own in case you want to try tweaking your rigs and see if it's making a difference at a glance faster than EOC reports or waiting for the end of day event report.

NOTE: This does not show the event TOTAL standings, this does not replace the blog post or official daily results in any way.

This page shows you your PPD for the past 24 based on when you're actually looking at the page...  so if you look at 3PM it's your PPD logged by F@H between 3PM today and 3PM yesterday... you look at 9AM... it's your PPD between 9AM today and 9AM yesterday etc.

These values may seem a little high, or a little low hour to hour as some hours F@H is going to record your hardware dumping in a bunch of WUs and others maybe only a few, so depending on what hours those are in the 24 hour cycle it can make the numbers look a little better or worse than you might expect based on the "daily" total that's provided from EOC or the event based on using the same time of day to calculate each day.

I have been using this tool so I can more easily see if changes I make to hardware are having a net positive or negative impact on 24 points aka PPD and the rolling window let's me make corrections or try new stuff every hour or so.

So this might be useful to you, it might not, it's SUPER WTF ALPHA so may not be perfect, but here ya go.

18454 has now crashed my 480 repeatedly for the past 16hrs.

Looks like it fails the submitting part.

Or maybe it's doing 18454 on a loop? PPD hasn't really gone down.
