oh man my laptop's been running at 83-87c (GPU) the past week because I didn't realize it was in performance fan mode instead of my custom mode. Performance seems to max out at 85% fan speed or something. And with only one fan those extra 15% make a big difference.

Now if I can just get that 4090 then I could move the 3080 to my 24/7 folding box and replace the 1650 with the 2080 (though I will limit its clock speed) which is in my main desktop (funny we still call them that, given they're towers).

 

The group points is surprising, it seems only a minority of the people folding for the group are actively posting on here.

It is and it isn't surprising. There's a ton of people folding that have been around for a few years with under 100 forum posts. Even quite a few under 50 posts.

Just got home and checked on mine. It's jumping around between 1300MHz and 1380MHz right now under a full F@h load. It's running rather hot right now (82°), so I suspect it could go a bit higher with better cooling. I've got mine running at completely stock settings though. 

 

I haven't checked the thermal paste in my P4000 yet (might do that tomorrow before the event starts), but I did disassemble it enough to clean out the heatsink shortly after I got it.

Damn, that's pretty bad. My P4000 wasn't quite that bad, though it certainly wasn't very clean when I got it. I did get lucky though - the eBay listing didn't say that it would come with any accessories, but when I received the package I was surprised to see the original retail box with the card inside. It even still had the stereo connector and DisplayPort to DVI adapter included, both still sealed in their plastic bags. 

 

When you clean it make sure you get the fan nice and clean, and make sure the heatsink is installed properly if you take it off.

Not too sure. Afterburner lets me change the power limit of mine at least, but I haven't looked into anything else.

If MSI doesn't try evga precision x1 Fun part is if is an OEM part...for instance i know the P5000 from Dell(From a PWS 7910&7920) is FW locked so you cant tinker with under or over clocking them...during covid i had a few at my house i was cleaning and testing for work and found i couldn't adjust crap.

Below is the P/N from an ebay listing if it has a sticker like that it was a dell (Not sure how HP,lenovo,any one else marks theirs)

Oh wow, that's not bad at all. I'm somewhere along the East Coast, and I pay roughly $0.12/kWh. It hasn't gone up much in the few years I've lived at my current house. IIRC that's about double the cost of my natural gas service, but like I mentioned earlier my furnace would be heating rooms I don't need to keep warm.

Here's the front room from pictures in the original listing. It's not so much that the room has high ceilings, it's just kind of cavernous with 2 walls that just let heat out.

I don't own the house I currently live in, but if I did one of the first things I'd do is split the A/C system. I've currently got a single unit handling two floors with a broken damper system, so some rooms get zero airflow while others are too hot/cold. During the summer the unit runs nonstop during the day, and it runs pretty frequently at night as well. This house is not great in terms of thermal efficiency.

Yeah, I don't have many options. The only thing I have in this house is the natural gas furnace (part of the central air). The only other way I could heat the house is to either have the fireplace repaired (needs a new gas line - there's a leak somewhere in the wall between the fireplace and the manifold in the attic) or to use space heaters.

If I planned on staying in this house longer I would get AC. Summer sucks in that house. Windows are all double pained but will freeze up in winter(-40f/c does cool things to houses and windows), but then are too well insulated for summer time.

We got by in our 1946 single pane window no real insulation cinderblock front wall house growing up with a few window units to bring the temps down to liveable with 5/6 windows of the (17?) occupied.

Be thankful.  A lot of mining GPUs literally get pressure washed in their rack before the air compressor to dry them and then into the box to sell on ebay.

Okay, something's definitely changed for the worse with my laptop. The GPU hits 90c even with elevation without a cooler at the lowest possible clock speed, and it sits at 83-85c even with the cooler on and at the lowest possible clock speed. I can't afford to have this thing blow up on me this close to the uni exams, so I guess I'll stick to CPU folding + 2060 for this event. Tjmax is 95c and although it will slow to a crawl (300MHz) if needed, this is still too close for comfort

 

I'm planning to get the other fan replaced and everything repasted in December, and that can't come soon enough...
