I guess the inrush current will be a lot higher, though I wasn't aware lighting and outlets shared, that's certainly a dumb idea.

 

Then again, our ring outlet circuits are pretty dumb too, if the loop is broken at any point then good luck as you're now potentially pulling twice the cables rated current.

The one I'm having issues with works perfectly (I've had it folding 24/7 for a month), but at random times it just crashes. I don't know what's wrong with it.

And now I have to go bed so the 3080 gets turned off, boo.  Well actually that box is only finishing its CPU WU anyway, process lasso was a nice tip to make that work as the PPD is way higher using just a single CCD on the 5950X.

 

The Macbook M1 Pro is quite toasty too, i'd probably be quite scared if Asahi Linux actually reported the CPU temperature.

I don't think I do unfortunately. I'm letting the owner of the 3080 borrow my GTX 1080, and despite using the same drivers it hasn't crashed once in their system. I didn't even reinstall the drivers when I swapped the cards out.

If it follows the 3080 it has to be something with the 3080. Hwinfo logs could say quite a bit, but just letting it run in the background getting a lot is going to make a massive file if you can't force it to black screen.

The only thing that is making me think it might not be an issue with the card itself is that it's only crashed once in a month in my system. In the owner's system it would crash at least once a day. Doesn't really explain why my 1080 doesn't crash with the same drivers.

Was it just folding when it crashed?

If it's crashing that reliably in their system, when they get it back show them how to get Hwinfo logs and I'll look through them when I get a chance? Could be the precursor to the reason they're all being listed. Could help us all

When it crashed for me it was folding in the background. I had just opened Forza Horizon 4, but the game hadn't launched yet when it crashed. The BSOD error code was related to the GPU. 

 

The owner wants me to take the heatsink shroud off to look at the board the best I can and make sure it's not got any physical damage. They've already brought up the idea of completely replacing it, but when I get it back in their system I'll definitely try to get some HWiNFO logs. It might not be for a few weeks though.

Hi, since yesterday about 16 hours ago, folding@home won't connect to local/server, I've tried tunneling with VPN, still wouldn't connect.

Previously it was running fine for a month or so, yesterday out of nowhere it crashed as soon as it started folding and after a reboot, it won't connect anymore.

Anyone has encountered this issue? Please help.

Is it because people are starting to join the LTT folding event therefore the servers are overwhelmed?

I'm watching a Northridge Fix video on a 3090 right now. Going to put some screen shots with things I see from it.

The last three look more "normal", the first one looks like a screw was too tight. They all generally look like the backplate wasn't lined up correctly at one point.

One mosfet considerably warmer than the rest.

That is marked Al00 OU1N. Seems to be quite a bit of dead cards with that mosfet blown. The card in the video I'm watching lost power then just wouldn't get power back.

I doubt this is that 3080 you've got. It would never work more than likely.

 

 

Searching for that Mosfet does pull up a lot of Gigabyte results though. Curiosity on that 3080 has me much closer to taking the risk on one of those 3090s. There's also a fuse that blows with that Mosfet it seems. Doesn't seem like much uses that mosfet for a donor board and I can't seem to find them online though.

I think the stuff above isn't completely related to that one crashing though. Just went down a rabbit hole and was more or less taking notes.

Hmm, if I don't see anything physically wrong with it I'll put it back in the owner's system. If it continues to crash there I'll probably just recommend a full replacement. It sucks that it's such an expensive part, but it's not very useful if it keeps failing.

Aye. If it's still in a RMA or Warranty window I'd do that. The Hwinfo logs and the extra stuff with the mosfets and through hole damage I was finding was for my curiosity, not stuff I thought you'd try to fix on a card they're kind of relying on having

Could it be PSU related? 1080 draws a lot less power than the 3080 and doesn't have huge transient spikes 0.o

The system that crashes has a relatively new (bought in June) RM850x. My system has a slightly newer RM750. If it was the power supply it should be my system having the issues.

Anyone on here folding with an overclocked 2070 Super and wants to share their overclock settings?

I have 5 and I would not exceed +50 on the Shader Clock at stock Power if you want stability. In general they'll typically do 2010 or 2025MHz all day long without issue, going any higher tends to leads to crashes.

 

Most folks who Fold typically reduce the power limit to make the cards more efficient.

Interesting. It sounds like intermittent failure as opposed to catastrophic. My knowledge is mostly Seasonic and EVGA, don't have as much experience with Corsair PSUs.

My question would be if the PS is ACTUALLY recent design, rather than just bought more recently.  For example, the RM650 I got for an office machine I built for somebody was gold rated and a lot cheaper than 450 and 550 PSU's, but that was because it was a many years old version of that PSU and on clearance sale as a result (though not called clearance sale).  It really could be transients, especially if you say it mainly happened on game launches.
