2021 Ali-baba be careful buying GPUs

Check out attached file. This9 seller was offering. Buy 2 RTX3080 for $300 each and then get 2 free. When he wrote my order he changed RTX3080b to RTX 2080. When I tried to contact him he would never answer my messages. Well I missed a great deal or not.

Yeah even without the 2 free, that's definitely a scam. Not sure how alibaba is about these things, but you definitely aren't getting 4 3080's for $600

I also am genuinely curious to hear as well. I've never actually heard why people would so blindly fall for these types of obvious scams

Did you send this person any money?

You've fallen victim to a scam. If you've sent any money you should contact your bank as soon as possible to report it and try to stop the payment. You should also report it to the police or any dedicated fraud/online scam agency your country has.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume this isn't a troll post by an account created less than an hour ago.
To be as respectful as I can, you got scammed badly. At normal prices, that card starts at $700 EACH, and GPU prices are currently inflated to ridiculous prices. To claim you're gonna get 4 top of the line GPU's for less than the MSRP of one during a market inflation is a simple case of "if it sounds too good to be true"
To add to that, if you weren't aware, AliBaba isn't well known as a secure, well intentioned marketplace. It's pretty well known for being littered with scams like this, Wish.com too. As much as I don't like trolling content, I genuinely hope you're only trolling in this instance

Alibaba actually somewhat great for for components type products, like IC, resistor, Caps sometimes, and bunch of other stuff...

That site has always been a scam for buying a GPU, and in the current market where any GPU has significant price inflation even a GTX 1080 for $300 each would be too good to be true.

Unfortunately Im always seeing this with fairly new people in the Technology Sector,

many people think that just because they are able to purchase an item from overseas, as to it being much cheaper, that it is a legit site.

 

90% of Online buisness is total crap and scam.

But since they are overseas, and there local goverment doesnt care, it will go through.

 

So please, always be cautios when buying anything from overseas, and Id personally never buy anything from any chinese website like wish, alibaba, aliexpress etc.

 

Instead go for trusted sellers locally, or from trusted countries like in europe.

Used low value stuff, it's fine. I've bought plenty of weirdo X58, B75, X99 boards off Ali no issue.

Somewhat used CPUs (R5 3600, i5 10400f)? They won't be too cheap but they'll be cheaper. Good deal.

Older GPUs, like RX 570? I buy them all the time for flips.

 

But RTX 3080s at 1/7 of MSRP?
