DuckDuckGo Calls Out Google Search for 'Spying' on Users After Privacy Labels Go Live

Summary

Over the course of the last several weeks, Google has been adding App Privacy labels to its iOS apps in accordance with Apple's App Store rules, but it took Google multiple months to begin sharing the information.

There was speculation that Google's delay meant that it had something to hide, which DuckDuckGo is leaning into with a new tweet that highlights Google's data collection and calls out the company for "spying" on users.

My thoughts

Firstly I never understood why people actively choose to use Chrome.

Secondly I've been using DDG as my full time search engine for maybe 7 years or more and it works great, it is nice to not have doctored search results. 

Thirdly, a count down until anti-fanboys makes this into a discussion about right to repair... 3... 2... 1...

Don't get me wrong, they're right, but who even knows what DuckDuckGo is? The people that know of DuckDuckGo also already know that Google treats their data like ripe wheat on a warm summer day - HARVEST IT ALL.

Tbh I use it because my university uses Google Workspace, and Chrome simply works best with it. And since our family business use Office 365, I use Edge.

But just so you know, even privacy oriented browsers like Firefox and Safari still has to rely on Google Safe Browsing API for phishing and malware protection, so there isn’t escaping Google unless you turn off those features.

A lot of people in this forum single out a certain company for it even though I personally believe a lot of them don’t even own one.

Duckduck go is definitely the best browser imo, the duck is beautiful. Only issue is, I use it on my chromebook, so google gets my data anyways.

I hope someday projects like GrapheneOS branch past the Pixel (only reason I own Pixels now lol or I would have never upgraded my phone that I still use from 2012).

Yeah, that'd be nice. My school doesn't allow me to bring my personal laptop, as they would have to enroll it in all the stuff, so i am rockin a lenovo 100e chromebook. I don't like it, and they blocked the ability to install a new distro of linux, so i'll have to live with my data being google's

Google probably already has such advanced algorithms and AI that it doesn't need to harvest any more data, I mean they already know what there is to know about users.
