Go to solution Solved by lani100,

Work, Repair some stuff for family and friends and ask some money for the jobs and I buy some used hardware and build computers and sell them with a llittle profit.

$2300 USD for everything, did well at the casino a few times, roofing, landscaping, computer repair, people that owed me money. in reality i have spent way more than that because of constant upgrading and i split my first build into 2 separate builds

New Years money, working and I ended up with a stack of hundreds saved up. I looked to them when I built my first system.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

I tend to buy my computer 1-3 components a month. So that the parts have no impact on my spending money, and I get to build it more organically. Here's how it goes:

-buy case, PSU and case accessories (case accessories are fans, hotswap backplanes, etc.)

--While waiting for next month, finish modding the case and sleeving the PSU and I/O.

-buy motherboard and cpu

--Check that everything works using storage and video cards I already have.

-Buy video card, cpu cooler, SSDs

--Dial in the overclock

-Buy the storage drives and anything that's become needed since last time.

Three months to build, zero impact on economy.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Just every other paycheck I buy something. In the last 6 months I have spent over 5 grand on 3 monitors a new computer a 55 in 3d TV with a Boston acoustics surround sound..If you can't buy things you like then what's the point in making good money..

I use my salary ofc.

Counting the water cooling system and the 47" 3d tv i bought to use as my computer screen; around 29,490.00 SEK=4,493.25 USD...

Damn, I didn't realize how much I've been paying. I bought piece by piece instead of everything at once...

This thread was kind of a wake up call :o That's it. I'm not buying a single part for at least 2 years.

A check from work and then a bit from people owing me money.

Kind of bought the parts over time... I'd say ~$2500 for the rig alone but just over $3k if including the 3 monitors (yay for finding those used, lol).

Kept it cheap at 1300 total for the tower, two monitors, keyboard, and mouse. I just worked my job for it. I'm trying to get a new job at a dialysis clinic to do my new rig sometime in the next rig.

First gaming PC: €1000

First laptop: €1200

Current gaming PC: €1700

All the iterations of my home server: about €700

Peripherals: in total about €1000

These are all very rough estimates (but about the minimum amount). I spend a lot of money on computer stuff bit by bit, so I don't have an exact count.

My laptop was sponsored by the family, because I needed it for college. All the rest is payed out of my own pocket. I have been working every summer since I was 15 (I'm 20 now).

My dad lent me some of the money I needed. Cost me about $660 just for the motherboard + processor (Maximus V Gene + 3770k). The tax over here is ridiculous!
I still haven't completed the build so I'm working to earn the money required for the rest.

How much tax?

I don't do a "build", for me its the wrong approach...I just upgrade 1 part at a time...well 3 if i need a new board chip and ram, i don't ever see my PC as complete, For me a PC should always be a work in progress, and you should never just go out and build a new PC to replace and old one...if it gets to that stage you need to do that you are doing it wrong.

One part at a time for me is the best way to go, not every year just when there is something significantly better, that way you don't blow all your money at once and are really disappointed when its not as good as you thought it was going to be.

Not being able to work any more lends its way to the way i have always done things, most i have ever had to spend on an upgrade in one go was £650, these days its £100 here, £100 there and so on.

Took about 3 years to save $800. All from allowances and holidays. I'm going to get a job this summer and upgrade it.
