Its very cheap to use USPS.  Thats why UPS, Fed Ex, etc actually will pay them to deliver packages.

No, it’s definitely currently a government agency.

USPS is ran by the government Period. Which means it’s a government agency. No it’s not in limbo, it’s currently being ran by an idiot, but that will be changed in a month and a half. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

The USPS has always been terrible and used to not deliver on the weekends. The main reason it's still around is the government pays companies to use them otherwise no one would and they would be forced to close

This is the rather exact opposite of the information I have.  My understanding is it is the private carriers that have been receiving federal help in the form of putting additional requirements on USPS such as making them carry only the least profitable mail and barring them from using the most profitable systems such as airport hub stuff.  FedEx jumped  onto the scene many years ago because they invented the airport based system, but were given what amounts to an infinite patent on it by barring USPS from using it.  Also USPS has been required to comply with a bunch of other things that are effectively not required of the other private companies that are designed to artificially raise their costs.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Interesting, yeah I've heard companies like Amazon will use someone like UPS until the last leg of home delivery for the USPS  satisfy the government kickbacks. I know the USPS has more strict rules for getting search warrants and package inspection hence why everyone ships drugs with the USPS instead of someone like fedex

Last mile is orders of magnitude less profitable than the rest of the system.  to the point of negative profitability. 
 

My memory is USPS didn’t want to do the last mile carry for private carriers but had to be forced to.  I’m less sure of that one though.  It’s a big mess.  There are vested interests at play.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Still, 17 days, that sucks, but shit happen. I've had Fedex ship overnight packages to Calgary when the delivery address was in Toronto ... twice in a row. Similar with UPS (other problems, but still). Shit happens. If it's not medication, or something urgent that you paid overnight for, it'll be fine. It's annoying, but it'll be fine.

Can personally confirm, getting international stuff shipped to the US is inexpensive compared to most other countries. From the stuff I've ordered from Canada (and Japan via DHL), the shipping costs aren't that bad. $10 to get stuff shipped from Canada Post to the USPS is hardly anything to sweat compared to how expensive it gets the other way around.

I had an eBay store in the early 00's, and shipping stuff to the US is ridiculously cheap. I remember shipping small packages to one of the Carolinas (can't remember), but I remember it was just over $5 CAD per box ... then shipping something similar to my brother 2.5h away, here in Canada, was $15 CAD ... :(

I would rather think a proper solution would be for LMG to offer shipping upgrades. So for those who want to absolutely avoid USPS, they can pay to upgrade to UPS or Fedex.

 

But, one of the major differences between UPS/Fedex and USPS (and by extension, Canada Post), is that UPS and Fedex will charge you a brokerage fee for many items crossing the border.

 

This is in addition to any customs fees/taxes you need to pay. It's basically a fee for them to file the paperwork. Canada Post and USPS will not charge you for this fee. That alone makes it worth it in my mind.

 

Additionally, while not your problem specifically, if they switched to UPS, it would make shipping a lot more expensive for all Canadian buyers, as otherwise it would just go through Canada Post.

 

USPS is having problems - but they all have problems. Most of those problems are politically created, and cross your fingers should be solved come January.

I had to ship original legal documents internationally once, only Fedex would do it ; $75 CAD.

 

It took over 10 business days, when the service I paid was 5-7 business day (ok, won't argue for 3 days), tracking was normal for the first leg of the day ; Montreal, QC > Ontario > British Columbia

 

Then it went to shit ;

British Columbia > Japan > British Columbia > tracking purged > British Columbia to final destination ....

 

I don't have the screenshots anymore (this was 2010-2011 maybe?), I was PISSED ... they made a mistake, then ERASED the tracking logs to cover their ass. I called, complained multiple times, never got as much as an excuse, one costumer rep even insinuated I doctored the screenshots.

USPS is overworked and underfunded. But their successful shipment numbers absolutely trounce FedEx and USPS combined even during this period of difficulty for them. USPS is the most reliable shipment service in the country and I see no reason why LTT should not utilize them for LTTstore.com

I tried to avoid USPS as much as possible. Ordered some merch and used USPS because that was the cheapest, while UPS and Fedex was over $45 on shipping. Looked at tracking and said, package will arrive on Tuesday at 5PM. That day came and there was no mail man in sight. Looked at tracking at it says, delivery attempted?! Called USPS, and it takes you to their stupid automated system that basically repeats what it says on the website, when you enter your tracking number. Got on their site to schedule a redelivery and they say this package is not eligible for redelivery. Had to go to the post office to pick up and I asked why can't I schedule a redelivery, when I was able to before on an order I've done before. The window cleak who was annoyed at that question, as if she had answer that for the 100th time, said with an annoying tone. Only USPS Priority are eligible for redelivery and because my package was USPS First Class, it's not eligible. I didn't want to argue (no point of doing so), said thanks to their response and left. But that was just some stupid BS.

Ever since USPS went from Government to private, things have not been going well. Pay cuts and lack of motivation. People are retiring early, or just leaving for better work/pay.

 

I'm not the only one with issues. One of my close friends ordered some stuff from an online firearms store (foregrip, sights, stuff like that). His orders were shipped USPS, and he had very similar issues as I did. Same thing where it took many days for his package to be scanned. One of his packages was actually declared lost just the other day. He'd been waiting just over 1 month for the other half of his order. I know he and I are only two examples, but I've talked to my co-workers about it, and they all claim to have similar issues.

 

Maybe I'm not patient enough, or maybe I'm just being pedantic about the whole scanning thing. But from what I gather, USPS has gone to the dogs and isn't coming back anytime soon. So I would like to see LTT cease their use of USPS, and instead use UPS. Now, I'm gonna guess it's more expensive and that maybe they don't have much control over that? I don't know, I don't know how it works behind the scenes. However I just simply do not trust USPS anymore. Not that I have the money, regardless, I'm too nervous to order anything more from the LTT store in fear it will get lost in transit.

 

I'm sorry if I come off sounding like a 12 yearold who joined the forum to make one post. But I just felt strongly enough about it to at least say something. Thank you for taking the time to read.

Sometimes, USPS is used for the "Last Mile" delivery, regardless of the shipper chosen. In which case, there's nothing LTT can do about that.

 

I've seldom had issues with USPS, and those I've had also reciprocate with UPS and FedEx (one instance involving some expensive camera gear).

 

That said, there could be systemic issues with your local post office, in which case, (assuming the carrier doesn't hand off the package for Last Mile) requesting a specific carrier and paying full shipping costs would probably be a good idea.
