I lived in Boston in1976 which isn’t even remotely current but as far as living there goes I might have a point or two that got missed.  Boston is a really old city and their streets got laid out befor cars were a thing.  The locals made a lot of jokes about the city being laid out via old cow paths. It can be complicated to get around and the streets tend to be narrow which makes traffic ultra evil.  I suspect a lot of that weird cost of living thing is how long it takes to commute to various places.  There was also the big dig which was the most expensive highway project in the history of the world and drastically changed a lot of connectivity. If moving there commuting will matter perhaps even more than many other cities.   The colleges and universities got mentioned for tourist stuff but may have been a bit undersold.  The colleges all have museums, frequently very specific ones, but they can have very very interesting exhibits one simply can’t find elsewhere if you happen to be into what they happen to exhibit. Sometimes stuff gets exhibited at these small museums that don’t even get to the big name museums.  Very much a timing thing and good exhibits tend not to be heavily promoted.  Boston Had food, but it was mostly local seafood varieties that got fished out long ago and more or less no longer exist.  It’s got more in common with European cities than most American cities.  Boston harbor was astoundingly polluted for a long time.  Not a lot of sea life lives there any more.

No idea.  Haven’t been back.  Street layouts can’t have changed all THAT much though there was a big change (the big dig) after I left.
