Were are we on the fusion timeline and when will something happen?
test runs, big scale projects that will be... 30 years away with another 30 years.

There are some smaller scales that want to at least test and might bring results sooner in a higher output value (Q = above 1 or  closer to 10).

Magnetic fields, overall run time, cooling, energy in vs energy out, stable long run time, and more.

 

But sabine Hossenfelder wants to clarify what might be misunderstood, if the tests want to use the best results but not the correct results.

As they might be only focusing on "Q plasma" not "Q total"

My understanding is fusion power has some of the same problems as fission power,  big expensive difficult and time consuming to build installations.  This is an improvement from “can’t get it to work usefully at all” and while even in that state it still has advantages over nuclear in that there isn’t a waste problem, which both nuclear and fossil fuels have, coal still often beats nuclear simply because the plants are cheaper and go up faster.  They produce a lot more waste, but it is dispersed invisibly.  Coal actually produces vastly more waste by weight than nuclear, and it is becoming clear that while it may be less dangerous waste in the short term it is still way too dangerous.  I think the waste products of fossil fuel plants needs to be made more visible so the danger can be better understood.

May be a question of what business finds what holiday more lucrative and where they are geographically.   The old standard in the US, which people used to also complain about, Was Christmas decorations came out the day after thanksgiving.  A lot of people still considered that too soon. Different countries have different dates for that one, and Christmas is a lot more popular world wide than American thanksgiving.  I suspect computer companies are frequently based in countries that don’t have American thanksgiving, and find the particular holiday not particularly lucrative anyway so starting on Christmas is reasonable for them.
