Power in my area sucks, if it goes down then it's usually for an extended period of time.

 

I use a 3kw inverter generator

 

 

I use a heavy duty extension cable to connect it to my 2200va ups that I feeds my homemade rack. The ups has avr, not once has it had to switch to the battery, so I guess the generator is doing a very good job, though I do have another ups on my main rig . 

 

It's a mess right now.

 

 

This means that my modem, router, server and ip cameras all stay up and running. I have extension cables setup and ready to be pulled from behind my main PC setup, lounge tv setup, and fridge/freezer.

 

If I do get a power cut then I'm back up in a few minutes, can game, watch the tv, stream off the server and browse the internet like normal. 

 

I like having the cameras on the ups, each one only uses a few watts so they can run for hours after the power is cut. They can still send notifications because I still have internet, and if the landline goes down I have a back 4g connection that is also running on the ups. Both internet connections go through vpns, so all my data including the cameras is encrypted.

When you have an electric pole from 1948 in your yard is that considered "modern"? They finally changed out the completely rusted transformer and raised the very saggy line that went to my house last year. That transformer runs my side of the block and when they changed out the fuses on that thing in 2012 the "crack heads" that were living in the apartments at the time were screaming their full heads off at the employees up on the pole. The electric has not gone out in at least a year but with this year's predictions this winter might bring back a three day outage when the lines came off the main transmission poles that ran most of the thumb.

Yep, don't want to eat anything just in case, dry toast has been getting me through. Had some pasta with a very plain passata sauce for dinner, lets hope it has passed.

Keep your electrolytes up!  I don't know if they have Gatorade or Powerade across the pond, but I usually get a 12 pack of the stuff when I feel a rebellion brewing.  (Just pretend I said this a day or two ago when it would have done you some good)

Don't worry, I have dealt with this enough to know. Just been using powdered electrolytes though as I detest most premade drinks and usually only consume water
