LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

203....Not bad for a guy that started folding less than a month ago 😎

I see the stats listing out everyone on our team.  It looks like I just missed getting to 10 million points.  Bummer.   I blame the USPS.  They were supposed to deliver me a replacement cooler for my 2nd PC a week ago, but I'm still waiting.  But I was actually wondering about the stats for the LTT Team versus the other teams.  Did the LTT team come in first?

I plan to setup a thread during this month.

IRL though been a bit nuts considering I work on a base and part of the Guard, so my bloody phone been blowing up in emails and texts lately.  :I   Darn place I work at almost went panic mode when one person got tested positive, thankfully, the chap did not come to the main building.  Otherwise, all of us would be on a mandatory 14+ day quarantine.

The KO (not KO Ultra) uses less than the Super and the same as any AIB high power OC card, nothing that can't be capped by power offset on any of the cards really. KO is just cheaper than most, is actually a 2080 die and if at any point a workload that is on it hits those magic situations where it's 20%-40% faster then win.

Problem is there is no data for the KO on a per project basis to know how well it performs but if I were to by a 2060 it would only be a KO. The card build and cooling is kinda garbage but I'd buy it for the GPU die alone.

Hmmmm, since it is a 2080 die, is its output good in Blender?

I may be tempted to snag one just for double duty on 3D rendering.  Been meaning to finally switch out my 960 in the 2nd rig and I keep eyeing the 2060 line.  Along with just taking the AIO off the 960 and smacking it on a 2060.  :P

That is if I don't go buying a resin printer instead.

Is it better to run most of my CPU cores as one slot or to divide them among 2+ slots? I have 8 cores/16 threads in my 2700X so I've set one CPU slot to 10 threads to leave some threads free for feeding the GPU and using the computer in general. It never occurred to me that I should/could do that!

I split it up in 4x4, seems to help with WU coming in, just have it cooking more if I do

Just things were.....warmer

I have the inverse of that problem when playing Stardew.  The game clock-throttles the card which slows down the folding.

I divide my 16-thread CPU into two slots of 5-7 threads apiece for variable amounts of headroom.  Several jobs that come in don't even use more threads than that, is why.

Is there a sweet spot for threads I wonder?

Got a 12 thread currently churning on my 9900k which is on Medium so 14 threads available.  Its still getting quite toasty, but its in a Fractal Design Node 304 which really limits air intake.  I moved to dual-NVME and removed all the HDDs cages for optimal airflow and replaced all fans with higher Noctuas.  Not really much more I can do there.

To be honest, I'm not sure I trust the ASUS Z370-I VRMs to cope under full-core load for any length of time anyway.
