LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Yes, with such an account you'd be limited with the kinds of VM's you can create. I have to contact Microsoft first to get access to the latest GPU instances, that's why I'm using the K80's.

Region is also a factor for what kind of VM's you can create, it's a puzzle!

I literally cannot create anything.  Their Free Trial page says 'a USD 200 credit to experiement with any Azure product for 30 days'.  Well its not any product is it!

I can't even create a simple 1core VM in any region. I get the 'NotAvailableForSubscription' issue for each.  *shrugs*

Hey guys,

Has anyone had any luck running this stuff in AWS?  I have looked into using spot instances, but I am concerned about the possibility of then having those instances removed and losing the WU.

Of course.  I want to help out more, by donating a little more to the resources but I'm not sure I can really afford the on demand prices for some of the GPU boxes, as they are 4 times the price of the spot instance.

I was looking at the same. Was going for a P2 instance, but didn’t count under trial 😅😅

you definitely would be able to hire it for F@H

Woo! Just broke my all time hourly record! 273,611 pts in 3 hours. The servers must be starting to spin up for real now.

There are plenty of GPU WUs... Now... If I could just deliver my completed units, then everything would be fine! 😅

So does that mean they are shifting their server to help ease in the collection of WU's?

No. As far as I'm aware that isn't possible.

The work server and collection server for each project is baked in to the work units.

Each project is assigned a work server. The work server will distribute the project and collect the completed work units when they're finished. The collection server is a backup in case the completed work unit can't be sent to the work server.

The LTT server won't be able to act as a collection server for other work units unless those work units were programmed with LTT server as the collection server. Since the server is brand new it's unlikely they've put out any that will have LTTs server as the collection server.

The LTT server went online over the weekend, put out a small batch of WUs and waited for them to be returned. Just a test run. Then they went online again and put out more work units which were promptly gobbled up by everyone folding. Now the LTT server has no more work units to distribute. All it can do is wait for people to return collected work units until F@H peeps put out more work units on the server.

Checking the server status, it appears it is back in Assign mode but only has 34 work units :D

Curiously, I haven't had any issues with delivering WU's. However I've had at least a few WU's I never got points from 🤷‍♂️

It's only one of my folding instances that continues to fail delivery with response "PLEASE_WAIT (464)".

Last time I folded was back in the PS3 days. I have no idea how the point system work but right now it seems like the estimation is all over the place.

One WU is estimated to ~150,000 from start to finish. When completed it says: Final credit estimate, 153222.00 points
The next WU is estimated to ~150,000 points from start to finish. When completed it says: Final credit estimate, 7608.00 points.
They took about the same time to complete and there were no issues uploading these.

This may be exactly how the system is designed and I know we're folding for a good cause. But damn it hurts when the actual estimate is so much lower!😭

I have been watching LTT for about 2 years, and joined the forum to be part of this Folding project.  I did 1 day of testing and completed about 13 units.

I currently have 10 WU trying to send (some for several days).

I have a mixed bag of systems, and not all are online all of the time.

NUC i7-8559U CPU

64GB DDR4
Nvidia 2080Ti

Gigabyte laptop i7-9750H
32GB DDR4
Nvidia 2070 Max Q

Currently have 2907403  and completed 94 (81 for this project)

I remember buying that one years ago dirty cheap, but never have a use for it (was more interest in the hard drive and memory sticks that came with the combo) since is real slow at everything... but maybe here can find some use XD

your client is estimating base point for second WU because it din't get right answer from server. so you won't get any points and that Wu won't be counted in your statistics for long time. it happens because of overload of servers. for me it happens  2-5 times in day
