LTT Folding Team's Emergency Response to Covid-19

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

The 6 years old PSU on my 2nd folding machine died 3 hours ago.... Looks like i'll be giving you guys a little bit of a head start in this event, but rest assured, Corsair MIGHT respect their 7 years warranty and ..... I'll be back!

My PSU in my current rig is 5 years old! I hope she hold! An EVGA SuperNova 1000w G2.

Also unless you damaged it, and they can prove it, they need to respect the warranty.

Now, i need some WU's for my Titan! It's been idle since 22:23 last night Irish time.

Has anyone tried FAHBench?

For testing gpu stability for folding I imagine it works quite well, but the score system seems a bit messed up or very inaccurate.

I don't see why you need to measure the FAHBench score when you can measure real-time PPD output. :P I've only seen people talk about it for testing folding stability.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a prebuilt. Got a gym buddy to try PC gaming after being devote Playstation fan since it's original release.

Tried it on a laptop, fell in love with CS:Go, and then got a prebuilt as well.

A good way to start, and he's always sending the odd message about what to improve, and what can be upgraded to get stuff going.

Plus, every folder helps :D

how are you guys getting WUs. I'm folding an a linux server i have at work and i havn't gotten much work the past two days or more. If i restart the client i may get a work unit if im lucky, but when it's done then i don't get anything afterwards and it just sits there until i restart the client again and only if im lucky it works.

edit:

I just restarted my client i got lucky to get something both for the cpu and gpu this time... Are the F@H servers just melting from all the load ?

I have been getting WUs pretty consistently not enough to keep me busy 24/7 but I have completed 17 in the last 3 days. I have however decided to turn the old girl off for a little while give her a rest ahead of the start of the event, she is nearly 10 years old after-all.

For those wondering if they will make the 500k total in time well my aging beast managed to score 450k in 3 days (there was a laptop involved for about 3 WUs but it was getting too hot.

So a 2500k and a GTX 1060 have managed quite well, wont be the worst system F@H I know but nowhere near the best!

Peaked at rank 10,610 in LTT team.

I've also gotten WUs since yesterday evening. 980ti has been going non stop through the night. I haven't checked what project for, I don't want to touch it now that it's finally working again, haha.

Surprisingly my 2060 Super I got is constantly being fed WUs.

The Titan V is 50% idle for the same amount of time. If it gets to the point it says 30 minutes before checking for WU again, I pause and unpause, then sometimes get one.
Sadly it can be mostly idle over night lately when I'm sleeping.

I have stopped folding on the CPU though, the power drain is nearly 200W for OC'd 5820K and it's putting out like 2K points every 1-2 hours from teh WUs it's getting.

Sadly, still no GPU work units on BSD/MacOS based systems. So the Radeon Pro has nothing to do.

Meanwhile, I'm considering sitting this one out tbh. Leaving the PC on all day to get one cpu WU and nothing for gpu doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially when there's a ton of other people also not getting enough work and happy to pick up the one I'd not be doing..

Just pause your cpu and let it sit. Your PC shouldn't use much power sitting idle. New servers are being deployed as we speak and LTT is trying to help in that department as well. Patience is the key to everything.

You could also use BOINC a bit? Rosetta@Home also works on covit-19. And other science projects do other great job!

Just read this in the description for one of my WUs and it makes me even happier to be a part of this!

"Further description coming shortly once we've dealt with the workload of getting these projects out, thanks for your patience!"

Today I paused my fah client (I never do this before), install some new Noctua 3000rpm Fan on my system (for better cooling), turn computer back on, then client just resume perfectly... But... then server didn't like my 4 Hours result T_T

Still waiting another slot completed to see if server can accept it...
