20$/wk (gas is ultra cheap where I am, this fills my car, I get about 360 miles on a tank)

52 wks a year

about a grand.

it averages anywhere between $0.90 and $1.40 per liter in Alberta, Canada, so lets go with a median of about $1.15/L, and I have a 50 liter tank that I refill once a week.

$1.15x50=$57.50, 52 weeks in a year = $2990 per year on average.

I currently drive a diesel as it gives better avg mpg's, current price is around £1.25 p/lt and I typically fill the car once a month and average around 500 miles a month.

But it does depend on what type of driving I do... in a month with lots of longer trips at motorway speeds I'll average 50+mpg whilst around town I'm getting 41mpg on average. So to simplify things let's call it 45mpg on average.

So £1.25 p/lt x4.5 = £5.62 per UK gallon

My car has a 60lt tank and the low fuel warning comes on with about 10lts left in the tank. So I'm filling up an average of 50lts a month (just over 11 gallons) over 12 months is 600lts @ £1.25lt is around the £750 mark.

Now I actually keep quite detailed spreadsheets of my income/expenditure and in 2019 I spent just £612.28... I don;t know exactly how many miles that covered because I've driven 4 cars that year... I sold my old one in April, the replacement was smashed up by a drunk driver in August and I drove a hire car for about 8 weeks... and then my new replacement since Oct.

So I can assume that I'd have spent a extra couple of full tanks last year.

My motorcycle gets about 60 mpg, I commute about 20 miles a day, five days a week, and regular gas is roughly $2.25 per gallon on average here.

(20/60) x 5 x 52 x $2.25 = $195

Rough calculation, it's probably closer to $300 with trips and the occasions I have to drive my car.

My Current Setup:

~$50/week. 14mpg car + 30mi/day @ $4/gal, just for commute. Add $6/day bridge toll and it's extra punitive.

Multiply by 50 weeks and I prefer to measure the car in Smiles per Mile. Car can pass damn near anything on the road.....except a gas station. I try to ride my bike to work instead of driving.

Don't have a car right now, and if (looking more like when) I do it'll likely be a PHEV or pure electric car, so it won't be much.  It honestly seems a bit ridiculous that we can pay couple of thousand dollars on gas to drive our cars... so that we can go to work to pay for the gas.

uhhh, lets do the math.

I put in 10 gallons on average every other week for 52 weeks (roughly, i have weeks off. But i cba to factor all that in). A fill up runs me ~$22. So, 26 fill ups per year at $22 a tank... $572? Given that i have a bunch of breaks, and i really only drive for school, call it like $530 or $540.

well if I only drove one thing a year then the break down would be...

Driving my f150 its about 4650/yr usd driving normally

driving my acura 4100/yr, but thats driving economically, which I rarely do.

then finally about 1100/yr on my bike even if Im wringing it out.

But I dont just drive one or the other exclusively, and trips like I take tend to skew things a LOT, like deciding to drive from LA to montana for a camping trip. My daily commute is about 54mi round trip, which i make 6 days a week, and I'll take my bike or car or truck depending on what needs to be done or how much of a hurry I'm in since that 27mi one way commute takes about 40-50m depending on traffic. 25-30 if I'm on the bike.

So realistically I probably spend like 3300/yr between the three and going on road trips.

Gas here is crazy expensive :L and we dont even get the good stuff either...

Edit: wow i get shafted on gas prices, but also apparently drive a LOT more than other people, 16,800mi/year without taking into account road trips but also not taking into account the extra days off i get every once in a while right now, and also ignoring daily life things that have me running 60mi down into LA and back once or twice a week, or up to SB and back. I uhh, it would probably help if I rode my bike a lot more, I had no idea how much I was actually spending on gas till right about now :( an extra grand in my pocket at the end of the year would be really really nice.

If I were to make a totally random guess, I'd say about $2000-$3000 CAD per year. I do track this information religiously (every time I fill up, I write down how many KM for the tank, how many litres to fill, and calculate my L/100KM).

That's to fill up about 50L, which gets me in the neighbourhood of 600+ KM.

I do drive a decent amount per year - around 25,000 KM or so.

My car is "alright" on gas. It's a 2L 4cyl Jetta. On a good week, gets about 8L/100KM with mixed driving. On a bad week, I approach 10L/100KM. On mostly highway driving I can get it down to in the 6.5L/100KM range if I baby it.

For my next car, I would very much like to get a Hybrid. I would just go full on EV, but I currently rent a basement apartment, so even if I could get approval from the landlord (they live upstairs in the main house), it would be a massive hassle that wouldn't benefit me long term, due to having to convince them to let me install a charger. Though I might consider an PHEV plug-in hybrid, and just trickle charge it via a 120V Level 1 charger (most of them even come with the base charger).

I do a good bit of driving. If the math in my head is right im spending almost $60 a week on my daily driver.

If i have to use my big truck then it gets alot. On the highway that big bastard gets about 12 mpg. If i take it to work and back it costs me $10 for that trip alone.

TLDR: I spent around $2,291 on gas for my car alone last year (Not counting my wifes).

I drive around 20k-30k a year sometimes a little more. I currently get around 30mpg in my Subaru with gas hanging out around $2.75ish average in my area. This last year I drove around 25k miles.

25,000 divided by 30mpg is 833.3 gallons of gas in the past year. 833.3 x 2.75= $2,291 in the past year.

Work is 2 miles away from me and I'm an introvert so I fill up about once a month at 40 USD so about close to $900 a year. Probably a bit more though because gas jumps to over 4 USD a gallon during summer here. -.-

15K kilometers a year (just around 10K miles), pretty much each year every time my car is due for service. I average around 7 liters per 100kms, 33MPGs and 45MPG highway. So thats 1050liters a year, 7000TL (around 3.5 months of minimum wage) a year but prices fluctuate extremely, that would be around $1300.
