    • -2 anti-RGB, this cursed trend conflicts with my belief and i would do anything to get rid of it from my life, even if it means to spending extra money or effort to do so.
      7
    • -1 negative, i don't like RGB, it's a light pollution. I prefer products with muted look that goes well with other colours. altho if a product is good enough but with RGB, i'm still buying it.
      15
    • 0 neutral, i don't care about it, it never bothers me. i would buy anything with right price and function.
      14
    • +1 favour, i care about the look department and RGB is a mean to express myself. would like to spend extra for RBG, altho i can accept compromises.
      12
    • +2 all in, i don't care what others say, would buy anything with RBG blings. i don't mind my SSD overheating as soon as it has RGB.

i just wonder how many people really into RGB stuff

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

I am crazy about light pollution, especially in my room. I got a desktop with every single LED is disabled or desoldered. I got my server which is also "de-ledded". I pretty much hate every single artificial light source unless its blacklight.

Well, I'm an anti-RGB person, period. I wouldn't put RGB lights in my system, even if you put a gun to my head, metaphorically speaking, of course.

In fact, I've several problems with RGB:

  1. I'm one of those men who take a deep pride in their masculinity and heterosexuality and I don't find flashy, colorful things particularly masculine or even... hetrosexual.
  2. I prefer everything... stealthy, as opposed to 'flashy'. Jet Black is my favorite color, and for a reason.
  3. I'm very sensitive to light. Bright lights at night give me headaches. There's a reason I prefer sleeping in complete darkness.
  4. Blue light can REALLY mess-up your sleep pattern, and that's a fact.
  5. Lastly, I don't want my PC look like a freaking theme park, for crying out loud!

If you like RGB then you're an immature person, as far as I'm concerned.

Without RGB, your system will be bottleneck at the circuit level. Always do RGB.

I use RGB to accent what colors I already have and to give some hue to give my aesthetic pieces more flavor and body.

A good example of this is my PC, it has purple RGB fans to illuminate the interior which is otherwise all black and white. Through RGB, I am able to change the accent color at will whilst keeping the base color palette neutral and minimal.

My latest rigs haven't ran RGB at all, back when I had a (mostly) full RGB setup it was still pretty tame (old pic of my full setup):
1003219235_IMG_00312.thumb.jpg.559e884f46203fb9b2d0e8d54691f9a8.jpg

I ran grey/black/silver base components with RGB for accent lighting, very similar to what @sowon does. I didn't run an RGB strip because it was too bright and hurt my eyes at night, as do any colors too far towards blue. Was a bit of a hassle with software because of the hardware I chose as well.

Lately I've been running rigs more like this (back case fan is actually an RGB one lol, but I don't have the controller for it):

Current main rig, though I did switch to a different Noctua cooler. And my latest project:

IMG_3343.thumb.jpg.b7f3fbb0a7c9adea8b05e102fdf6ef50.jpg

Mostly cleaner builds with a color scheme decided by the hardware I have. I usually pick hardware I love for various reasons, from the name to the looks to really anything. Not massively against RGB (I'd pick components with it if they're the prettiest ones), but I do think it's often overrated. I'm a big fan of how hardware looks on its own, and some newer overbuilt mobos really look best with the RGB on, without it they're pretty eh. It does make for good accent lighting though, I may look into dimmable strips (I have a phanteks one but it's much too long, and buzzes when dimmed) so it's not blinding but I can still light up my hardware.

Wasn't it proven that RAM with RGB performed worse with it on vs off due to power draw and heat?

RGB isn't like racing stripes on a car, it has the full on opposite affect.

Probably between 0 and 1, but filled in 1.

I like RGB, but mainly to simply pick whatever color I like. I am not really into the effects and on certain components/peripherals I wouldn't spend more on other components.

What I mean is that I like having RGB on my keyboard and mouse, but don't care a ton about it on my PC components anymore.

i dislike the trend in RGB. it can be pretty nice when done tastefully, but the fact that manufacturers now have the ability to crank up the prices of their components just because of some mediocre LED functionality is just painfull.

You, like many it seems, completely misunderstand what RGB actually is.

You don't have to keep it as a rainbow effect. You can simply run a solid color. In which you get tons of choice of color, instead of having to buy a different component if you want to change the color of your build. Not only does it cut down on cost to you, the end user, it also drastically cuts down on costs for the manufacturer.

I know. I hate having choice too. To hell with RGB! /s

Haha, hilarious. At first I took it as a joke, but after reading the other points I'm not so sure.

Not sure how colors make you any less heterosexual. I had shoes with heart-o-grams and bright pink laces for years. Gay? Nope. Did it get me tons of girls numbers? Yup, they sure did. RGB doesn't have to be multi colored.

i agree with everything in your post, except this.

what about the consumers who rather buy a product without any LEDS at all? we are basically forced into buying into RGB, because all decent components simply need to have it these days.

Please, don't pretend like options don't exist for you. That's very disingenuous. There's loads of models that don't have RGB, available from virtually every company. The only exception maybe being GPUs, and even then it's just a logo. RGB doesn't really add much to the BOM, and you can always just turn them off.

not really.

here's a few examples: i bought Corsairs's SE contrast RAM because the white color matched my system. it came with white LED's. granted, not RGB, but i also cannot turn these off.

i wanted the smallest mATX case to still accomodate normal components. i got the white InWin 301 because it is simply the only case in this formfactor readily available at the time. it sadly has a large diffused blue LED in the front.

if i think harder i can probably get you more, but this is the point i'm trying to make. all semi-decent components have this stuff. i resorted to just not plugging in my case LED, but that still leaves me with a large blue sheet of plastic in the front. "just turning the LEDs off" leaves you with basically unsightly logo's in the best scenarios.

it is true that non-RGB models are available, but they are few and far between. and when you want to build a high-end system you are pretty much damned to RGB.

Tbh at first I thought the leds would be irritating and I hesitated a bit because of that - I also wanted the RGB version precisely because then I wouldn't have to deal with the same color all the time (but I didn't find a good deal for that) It's also my first build ever and tbh it's a bit of a pain with cable management and such,   but I managed and I'm really loving the leds now,  doesn't bother me at all while playing (funny enough the red hdd led does though sometimes) but I'm just fully embracing the blue now and it's really OK imo,  and the case is so sturdy, I love it!  :)

See,  I don't even have a backlight keyboard...

I also had red fans for a while but are now replaced by Noctua ones.

This is how it is now...   the bottom intake is really great, lowered GPU temps about 10C actually!
