Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

@SyaoranDefinetly something up with your chassis cooling. Those HWinfo plots show you CPU getting really hot at 100% load but more worrying is the motherboard temperature sensors are all above 40C.

Check your case fans and make sure their pointing in the right direction. A quick check is to run the system for 20 minutes or so and check the temps then open the side while running, wait a few minutes and if you see a dramatic drop in temperatures then you have an airflow problem.

My test system is a mid tower with 120mm front and side intake and a 92mm rear exhaust.  I have to crank the fans but can fold full power with the CPU and a RTX 2070 in it. It gets a little toasty but it is an older chassis (Fractal Core 1100) and opening the side helps.

The fans came preinstalled and they're pointing in the right direction, I have one intake and one exhaust.  I did your test and the temps are pretty much the same.

Stock cooler, 2 front and 1 rear 120 case fan, Thermaltake H15 mini tower.

I also note you have a 580 in yours, and those run fairly warm.  What case and cooling do you have?  This could all be as simple as the case design not moving air through fast enough to cool both the card and cpu.

I have the Rosewill Challenger, everything is being cooled with fans. One intake, one exhaust, stock CPU fan. I used to use both the top and rear exhaust and no intake, I just changed it to front intake and rear exhaust last month.

You can also use Ryzen Master to slightly downclock and undervolt everything if you want to save a bit of power/heat as well, though you'll have to figure out what's stable for you in doing so.  I have my bios set to underclock both and undervolt the gpu portion and then have to apply it in ryzen master for any OC.

I would do that but I don't know how and I don't have the time to figure it out because of school.

I may have missed it, but which Gigabyte motherboard are you runnning?

Your case looks similar to mine for layout and airflow, except for the 3.5 front bays taking place of a 2nd front intake fan for me.  That could be a fairly large difference for the board components.  I see your side panel has fan cutouts though, so you can probably help things by doing a makeshift funnel from that to the top of the CPU fan, so it is always sucking in fresh air to distribute in the case as well, rather than taking warm air and making it hotter to recycle that.  I notice when I crank up that a bunch of the warm air is shoved at the memory and then sucked right back into the cpu cooler, but with the extra air flow I have from the other fan there, it hasn't turned into a problem.

So I open FAH and I find my apu listed as folding and not my Radeon RX 580 GPU, yesterday's work is gone too. I changed it to use my 580 but it still says it's folding with the Ryzen Vega even though the the 580 is actually doing the work.

Interesting idea, I'll do that and see if I get lower temps.

Yee, Vega cards don't do too hot, thus why I was wondering if the Navi cards do better because that's a different arch.

I don't think Navi cards work with F@h yet. Something about OpenCL if I'm not mistaken, driver issue.

VRM isn't trash, and it has a heat sink on it, so it should do fairly ok in that regard.  The graphics card probably also helps trap heat for recirculation with the stock cooler as it isn't a tower, so I think the duct idea may help more than anything else here.

So I've been folding with my GPU today and the temps of the CPU are strangely high, I'm guessing it's because of the heat that the GPU is giving out.

I opened Overwatch for few seconds before taking the pic but the max temps shouldn't have been affected.

Nice comparison, thx for sharing it.

In anandtechs review of radeon 5700 cards. In the tests where the drivers and benchmark software works, depending on the test XT was all over the charts. At worst it was same level as GTX 980 and at best it beat RTX 2070 super. Drivers really need so attention from AMD, at the moment it looks like Navi cards aren't ready for compute stuff.

Ouch. 112C. You definetly have an airflow problem.

when I asked about the side off test I meant to do so with the CPU and a GPU Folding.

You might have air recirculating in the chassis or the supplied fans just don’t have enough “oomph” to push a large enough of air through to remove the heat.

A side exhaust fan might help but depending on your clearance you might need a thin (15mm) one too keep the blades off the PCIe power cables.

Agreed. I really want AMD to fix this as the 5700s look like they’d be a good value if not as efficient.  There’s a post over at folding form where they’re testing the 5700s as the new drivers are released to see if they work.

when I asked about the side off test I meant to do so with the CPU and a GPU Folding.

Oh. Alright, I'll do it again but when folding this time lol

You might have air recirculating in the chassis or the supplied fans just don’t have enough “oomph” to push a large enough of air through to remove the heat.

A side exhaust fan might help but depending on your clearance you might need a thin (15mm) one too keep the blades off the PCIe power cables.

I have a bigger fan at 140mm that's at the top (according to the specs here), maybe I should change it back to that.

Why not a side intake fan? According to the quote below, an intake fan would better than an exhaust fan.

Also, I don't have any more system fan headers to plug fans to, my motherboard only has 2.

@justpoet, would a cardboard funnel be ok to use or would it be too dangerous?
