the temperature control one is pretty normal i think, all my rigs get it and they're fine

the other one is because you'v changed the number of threads the slot can use it's restarting core a7 to comply with that

Ah Thanks, not sure how I changed that but okay.

In the meantime it seems to have gone back to 99% usage, so all good now. Hope on 180k points today again (seems my ave a day, overnight running low/mid to keep fan noise down)

Also oof I'm pretty sure my 1660 Ti is pulling more PPD than my RVII. Are the Navi GPUs any good for folding or does it just really really like Nvidia cards?

Yee, Vega cards don't do too hot, thus why I was wondering if the Navi cards do better because that's a different arch.

I wouldn’t be able to say from experience, but by virtue of how not good Vega is, I wouldn’t be overly surprised to learn it does about the same

Vega is a solid arch, kills in a lot of compute tasks and overclocks quite well a lot of the time. They just come with a very aggressive stock voltage and mediocre (or in the case of the RVII, stupid*) coolers, AIB cards and waterblocks solve that and let them perform pretty damn well. I should compare my benches to some other cards, I can push my watercooled RVII to 2030-2070Mhz on the core (so far, may get it higher next time I'm benching) and it can push out some mean performance. Sadly I didn't OC my Vega FE much when I had it on water, downsized a bit and moved to a 1080 Ti for a while.

*they legit cut out the finstack to put the fans in the middle of it instead of on top like a normal 3 fan card, the finstack is about 1/3 the size it looks:

Finstacks look about the same, the RVII one is hidden a bit behind the aluminum shroud. But when you take off the fans you see why it's slimmer:

They cut out most of the actual cooler to fit in the fans, lmao.

Oof yeah I had noticed that about the heatsink. Any rate, perhaps I don’t give Vega enough credit.

They were a blessing for prosumers, a bunch of reviews for the Vega FE were from people who needed a solid compute card and the Vega FE (even at the $999 MSRP) was much cheaper than similarly performing Quadros. There's a lot of stuff Nvidia GPUs do better, but if your use case has a workload Vega does well with, they can bring an insane amount of performance to the table for the price. The Vega FE beat the 1080 Ti in a lot of compute workloads, the RVII beat the 2080 Ti in some IIRC. Thus why it's kinda sad that F@H isn't one of those workloads.

In gaming, the Vega 64/FE/heavily OCed 56 are about on par with a 2070 or 1080, the RVII fights a 1080 Ti/2080, I may be able to edge out a 1080 Ti with a good OC but I haven't seen the vs numbers. Vega being unpopular has mostly been price, running out of stock extremely quickly so prices spike even more, and them running hot out of the box. OG Vega was hit really hard by crypto mining, they weren't even an option for months and months since prices were in the $1400+ each range (prices were insane for anything midrange and above though), that legacy carried over to give the RVII a bad rap. RVII is also a bit of an oddball, it's a cut down enterprise GPU with less CUs but a higher clockspeed and smaller node than OG Vega. It does have a disgusting amount of VRAM bandwidth, 1000GB/s at stock vs the 784GB/s or so of GDDR6, can be OCed to push about 1337GB/s or something like that. That and if you want more than 8GB VRAM without going used or paying $1300, the RVII was a good option. They're discontinued now though, and I think prices have hiked again because of that, or they're just plain not available.

TL;DR: Basically the Vega cards are solid, just not as user friendly or available as Nvidia's GPUs and the Polaris/Navi cards. They also got a bad rap from OOS price hikes at launch and during the crypto craze.

By default, at least on my installs, F@H is set to pause when on battery, so that really shouldn't be an issue.

Alas, the only actually demanding title I play favors Nvideo, so I plan on getting a 2070 Super. If it weren’t for that, I would consider it (or maybe later, after I upgrade my stuff, for folding purposes)

What title is it? There are a good few that prefer Nvidia, some like AMD, and a lot are just kinda in the middle. 2070 Super is a very nice card though.

For folding, you'd want a 1660 Ti on a budget, or a 2060 for the best PPD/$ from everything I've read on the matter. The 2060 Super on up are still excellent for folding, just cost more. If you're getting one anyways for gaming, there's no reason to get a lower performing card for the better folding value. F@H just isn't a workload Vega does well, I'm pretty sure my 1660 Ti is pushing a higher PPD than my Radeon VII. That's a $299 low midrange card vs a $699 flagship. ? For games though there's no contest, RVII blows the 1660 Ti out of the water as it should.

Ah, my bad I had misread. Any rate, the game in question is GTA V.

I forget what fps I was pushing in GTA V, need to boot it up again. I've been playing Destiny 2 (my main game) and Monster Hunter World lately though, I've got a massive list of games to actually finish, lol.

Also oof I'm pretty sure my 1660 Ti is pulling more PPD than my RVII. Are the Navi GPUs any good for folding or does it just really really like Nvidia cards?

Where could I find such detailed stats of myself? ?
