Thread For Tech Quickie Video Suggestions

What happened to..... series. Maybe give a little history about said apps? i.e.

"What happened to Fraps?"

"What happened to XFire?"

What is and what is not planned obsolescence.

There are tons of great videos out there already about it, but for some reason people on this forum don't like to listen to anyone except LTT.

The evolution of PC Vs Console (In the sense of performance and specs)

And if possible, having help with people like MVG or even Scott The Woz (The last one can make a "jokingly interesting" fact scene)

Hey LTT and team,

Here's my suggestion for a direct follow up video to the Chromium Edge browser on Xbox.

I don't know if you're aware of WebGL/WebAssembly, but it's a bytecode and compile target for any language, and various games written in C++ have been ported to it meaning they run at near native performance in the browser. I've included below a few ports for you to try on the Xbox using the new Chromium Edge browser. I can't explain how disruptive this is, as there is now a way for game developers to deliver cross-platform binaries that "just work" everywhere, and for developers there's no 30% tax from the platform owners, and for users they can play from any device with a modern browser. WebGPU, which is a next generation Vulkan-like graphics API for the web (slated as a successor to the now outdated WebGL2) is already in early preview and it's slated to ship in Chrome in January of 2022.

Also something to note is that WebGL2 is now enabled by default in iOS 15 which just recently shipped.

The ports below were done by a co-founder of our Canadian browser-games startup (we're from Alberta!)

We're also working to develop a new pipeline and SDK for Unreal Engine developers to deploy their games to HTML5, and we're gearing up for general availability later this month. If it's of interest to anyone, you can join our Discord server here to find out more: https://discord.gg/zUSZ3T8

Dear forum users

I hope you can help me get this topic seen

TLDR : was called out as none "techy" for saying if you  forgot your laptop charger use your phone charger in emergency (both type c charging and somewhat new devices)

I have a  few parameters i need to get right

1) I need the answer from Official source aka -anyone who is certified to answer this question

2)  lets say i belive both devices use USB c-pd (not true at every case )

3) would prefer if made a demonstration of diffrent situations and explanation

4) would you use it in an amargency

edit: please dont send me to someone twitter where he test cables ( seen while searching google for answers  )

Usually the product page of your laptop has details about it. Sometimes I charge my laptop with a 45w Samsung charger and have no issues (original charger is 65w). 15w should work too but it will charge slow when turned off and may even use battery when turned on (depending on CPU and GPU)

I dont have a source but pretty sure even 5w will work but just painfully slow.

Would love to see a video giving a high-level explanation of the different kinds of app installers that exist in Windows, why there are so many, and what their differences are. Some good questions to answer:

  1. What does it mean when an installer asks "do you want to install this program for everyone or just you?"
  2. What's the difference between .exe and .msi? And what's with the new .msix and .appx?
  3. How does the installation of Microsoft Store apps differ from more traditional apps?

Honorable mentions:

  1. What is SmartScreen?
  2. Portable apps vs installed apps

this is still a great suggestion in 2021.

sure there is jank compared to something like unraid.

BUT you dont need to prep the host machine, you just install ASTER, plug in multiple mice/keyboards/monitors and you're essentially good to go.

and yes there is more jank. not all games are going to run outside of sandboxie, especially anything that requires a launcher/steam/etc

I reckon an interesting comparison would be 4 gamers, CPU replicating the windowsServer2016/hyperV(win10)/MultipointServices VS unraid/win10 VS win10+ASTER

pros/cons of each from performance metrics to jank vs jank.

although honestly since linus already did 7 gamers 1 gpu using unraid/win10 it's probably way more topical to do a purely linux based multiseat gaming setup

This is something that I have wanted to know for a little while now and thought this could be a good idea for a SC Video.

The differances between a "Normal" Screen and a "Privacy" Screen. It first came to me when I saw one one someone's phone while at work and for some reason the idea of it some how hindering the refresh rate popped into my head. I thought about it some more and thought that it could be a good idea for a SC vid, going over the differances between the two screens. How does it impact refreash rate? How does it impact brightness? How does it impact constract? And all other impoant specs to a good display.

@BotherRed This would be more TechQuickie than Short Circuit. Short Circuit is meant for unboxings and quick overview/first impressions of a product where as Tech Quickie is designed to explain how technologies function and work. I have merged your question into the Tech Quickie thread.

This is more of a new series/new channel suggestion.

You could cover new game releases/updates, in terms of their performance/optimization on different hardware.

It would be almost the same process as what you already do for new hardware releases.

But instead of checking how a new CPU/GPU performs on a bunch of games, you check how a new game performs on different systems.

And even which settings affect performance the most.

When I'm considering buying a new game, I'm always wary of the chance that it's poorly optimized for my hardware, or just a bad console port that doesn't work as well as it should on any system.

Having a trusted source put numbers on the performance a game has, would be very helpful when choosing what to buy.

And revisiting it after it's been updated would be even better.

I remember Linus mentioning something about RDR2 being poorly optimized for the PC in the last WAN show, then immediately retracting his statement because maybe that has changed since the initial release.

And from a production standpoint, you would pretty much never run out of content for as long as there are new games/updates to be reviewed.

You wouldn't even necessarily need all that many pcs.

Just including one midrange CPU/GPU of each brand and generation would give a good enough picture of the performance on the entire generation, since they all share the same architecture.

So you might be able to get by with only ~5 workstations, covering the last 5 generations of Intel/AMD CPUs, and Nvidia/AMD GPUs.

Sure, you could also mix and match, or include more than one piece of hardware per generation, but that would exponentially increase the amount of work needed per game.

I would love a quick tech tip about Vulcan. The driver kind!  An ELI5 in 1 minute how it  works. My curiosity is because a few emulators use it now. Some blackmagic happens where the faked specialised or unique graphics hardware, now somehow speaks real hardware. How the hell does that work?

Another idea is to quickly assure people that AI !=Skynet. Some of us (me) thinks AI is bad ass. Robots can do and should out do humans in many tasks, and at the sametime humans, can and should out do a robot. An AI  for example doesn't get some sentences where tone, slang, or just look at a picture will make something make sense. Put the picture with the trophy on the on the shelf. (For example) an Ai, will have zero clue, or know to say: OH! you took a picture of your trophy so it can go into storage? sufficed to say. A quick thing ELI5 about Ai, what it is and is not would be great.

Hello All,

Recently my interest was peaked concerning the intel management engine / AMD PSP. Much of the information I see talks about them as a security risk by providing a back door into systems at a hardware level. From what I understand, a separate core on the motherboard executes a proprietary OS called MINIX; however, no one seems to have a definitive answer for what it does. The only indication I seem to get to its function comes from the intel page, which says that it provides a way to send commands to the system, even when all the components are in a sleep state. Seems like a minuscule reason for such a large security risk that is not easily fixed.

Now I really value privacy, so I'm probably biased in this regard, tho it seems to me that this could be an easy way to monitor people's systems for nefarious purposes, whether that be governments or black hat hackers. I know that various U.S. intelligence agencies have negotiated with intel to have the ME removed for their purposes. I've heard of systems being able to run without this ME as well, such as the system 76 laptop. So that brings me back to the main point of this post: Why do intel ME and AMD PSP exist in systems and what do they do? If it's such a hazard, why haven't people brought it up more?

Looking forward to hearing all your input!

Configuring HDR Monitors. (Why Are mine looking OVER SATURDATED)
USB-C Monitors would also be great.
How do I use the Single Cable USB-C with my Graphics Cards (Is Dongles the only way)?!?

Step by Step for HDR Screens and setups would be great (Talking for Content Creators and Print Graphics).
