To reiterate what has been said above, redistributing software through the forum is not allowed, especially when the publisher has made it abundantly clear that they will not permit it. LMG do not want to deal with legal threats. Attempting to do so after this post will result in, at a minimum, a warning.

I do not currently intend to remove any links to third party sites that may hold a copy of the software, though that is not a guarantee that those links will not be removed in future. Downloading from a third party site is of course done at your own risk.

Maxon has sent out letter to all 3rd party hosting site to take it down or face legal action.

Imo i think it's done on purpose so users are forced to run win10 and grab from the ms store. For macs, don't really know, since they already have the app store in all of their os from a while back.

If win7 users can access the ms store via a browser, then getting CB R20, won't be a problem.

Well yes they can access the website but users on Windows 7 won't be able to download it because the store website points to the store app.

Doubt it will get anywhere but I've just contacted Maxon to ask for their reasons for only wanting to use the Windows/Apple stores and if they've even realised that this will isolate some of their long-time users, risking a backlash from the tech community who are just waiting for the next issue to throw their opinionated weight behind?

Sad that it doesn't have the ability to benchmark your GPU any longer.

proper games are a better benchmark ._. R15's GPU test mainly deals with viewport playback for C4D (i.e. performance when you're editing a scene)

This whole you need the ms store bs. I think something is going on behind the scenes and the results did no go out as planned.

Well no.. because it was Apple Store as well.

They just didn't want to host the downloads on their servers for something free. That is all. A business decision.

Now, they back tracked, probably saw it was not worth it. Probably, they considered that their benchmark tool brings attention to their paying software, and best to consider it as advertisement instead, and should go in the advertisement budget. I don't know... just guessing.

Someone has to pay for the hosting, that isn't free for MS either. That's an interesting question, say someone wrote a "free" app, can they just add it to MS store for free? Even if it is free, that might be a business decision on MS' part. For example, they want people to get used to using the store so may make it free to advance that.

It is free, same for Apple Store. Like you pay some "nominal" fee to join, unless what you are working is open source, but that's it. I think it is around 100$ US or something like that for a company, and in the case of Microsoft 19$ if you are an individual. Of course it hurts Apple and Microsoft, but it gets people to their store. They hope that you get paying apps as you discover it, or get a service through an app, or do some in app purchases.

I don't think it is a business decision on Microsoft part, else the app would be more locked down and encrypted, where you would not be able to run it outside anywhere beside Windows 10, acquired from the Store, making it a Windows 10 Store exclusive with no way out. Also, it would be either Windows 10 exclusive (no Mac version), or be available outside of the Apple Store, and [only on Windows you need to get it through the Store.

Yeah but all osx uses the Apple Store so it is not a big deal for those who uses macs. On windows only win10 have access to the ms store and no one else.

True.. but Win7 is close to end of support, and looking at chats, weather it is from global perspective or zone in in gaming (Steam hardware survey), Windows 10 has the majority market share, pasisng teh 50% mark (~65% on Steam). One can argue that most of Cinebench users are using Windows 10, and those who do benchmark for review purposes, definitly are on Windows 10.

So maybe we can argue it is 1-2 years too early to do this on Windows, but it is close, and I think it was understandable.. I mean it's not like they made it store exclusive back in WIndows 8 with its real trash store, and very weak market share.

That's not it because Maxon sent cease and desist orders to other people rehosting it which didn't didn't cost Maxon a dime in bandwidth.

I use Win7 for bench marking because *cough* "reasons" *cough* but mostly because it's super easy to work with and I have an ISO with like EVERY driver baked into it so I just install by USB super fast and easy on any board here.
