Ultraviolet service ending soon

I just got home from work and checked my email, sadly it appears ultraviolet will be no more. I've bought my entire movie/tv library for the past 10+ years digitally, because of ultraviolet. It was a form of backup if a digital distribution went out of business I could just use ultraviolet to go elsewhere, well now that's fudged. I haven't seen any news articles about it yet but I know its not spam because its on ultraviolets front page. Just very disappointed. going to have to create a local digital back up. :(

never even heard of this service before lol, I am rather surprised it survived as long as it did (it was launched in 2011)

I only ever got a few Digital Download Keys from this service. They were tied in via iTunes though so all the digital copies I got from buying physical copies are not going away :)

I used it back in the day to convert all existing dvd's of mine, and my family's' to digital copies and synced them with my digital accounts, and sold the dvd's that were mine. so yeah I have a few thousand movies to backup locally.

yeah, except at any point apple can remove movies from their library, including yours. there was some buzz about that a few months ago.

I know what I signed. They cannot remove any already downloaded content, only the ability to purchase it and re-download it.

yeah i got my email today about this as well. All my movies I got from them are in my VUDU account so im good.

I used to use this service. Before moving towards plex and my own drm-free storage.

 

Was ok. Nothing special, but not bad also early on when almost every dvd came free with the digital copy on UVVU. Also one of the early ways to get digital HD movies.

I just bought a BR which uses UV for its digital copy. Might as well get one the old fashioned way at this rate. Yet another digital copy service which I use that's being shut down.

Not for long, I'm sure all phones will be IR blaster-free within 3 years.

I remember the UltraViolet ads on the rental DVDs from the library and old DVDs my family owns. It's a shame that they're going to shut down.
