how do you define such malicious behaviour on forums?

i was somewhat active on a gaming forum years ago, like many forums it also has an off topic section. back then people were less careful as nowadays and would post things that were more or less personal, like relationship with the family,  opinion on certain matter and sometimes just use it as a blog to complain things.

 

there was an individual, who i have never engaged in direct conversation. i think he (im pretty sure it's a he) is quite a sucessful person in real life because i remember someone said he was graduated from a famous university, unlike me who has been a loser for most of the time to the point im dont really care anymore.

 

anyway. people say stuff, sometimes stupid stuff, people trolling people because of stupid stuff, all too common. what isnt common is he kinda "stalks" on me (and probably someone else?), on my threads and posts.

 

for example, once i made a post complaining some of my family's bad drinking habit on dinner table, and he remembered that. when i post new threads, or reply on someone else's thread, he would reply or quote me in contents that's not related to that thread but from that drinking culture thing, in a bully-y sacrasm-y way. like:

sometimes he would comment things in a manner that's somewhat related to the general topic. for example in a post of anime discussing, i made a reply of recommending some 90s anime series i liked. then he would reply:

all in all. you can ignore it, but you can't unseen it. to someone else might be funny at first, but to me, like you walking home and saw a steaming pile on your doorstep.

 

like my previous post, there just isnt many forum programmes that supports blocking users, let alone many years ago. i never replyed to him, and one time i even asked moderators if they can do anything about it. but since he didnt use any dirty words nor swearing me in an obvious way, they can't do anything about it. and that's what i did, i tried to ignore him, and when i can't, i use random text to replace my password and leave the forum. (cannot delete account)

 

now my question is, how do you define such behaviour? do you think such behaviour should be discouraged, warned, or punished?

Just an internet troll. Probably not even a very good one at that. Such behavior is discouraged at every forum I belong to and in several forums will get you a nice long time out or even a permanent ban. Like said above, the best thing to do is to not engage with the troll. Just report it and let the forum staff handle it.

On these forums such repeated behavior would result in a ban. So if this ever happens here, report it and be smug about the little 'Banned' text that comes up underneath their account, and any of their alt accounts if necessary.

Many people just lie on the internet to make themselves feel good. I don't think many people do it here, its a pretty unique forum IMO.

Going as far as essentially stalking you just to be an ass, obviously shows he has no life even if he supposedly graduated from a good university. (Likely a lie anyway, everybody lies on the internet.)

 

All in all, I wouldn't recommend engaging on forums that do not have a "specific user" blocking features. You'll live a better life without such a toxic environment.

Troll behaviour is usually stuff like annoying people and making fun of people. 

It can be malicious but stuff like threats would be harassment, and therefore more serious action would be taken by the mods.

Reporting someone isn't a guaranteed ban.

 

Other then that? You won't have any idea if it worked, since punishment is confidential between the person being punished (usually warning points or temporary suspensions) and the mod team. You're not even supposed to talk about what you got punished over.

 

With that in mind, if you've reported someone because they have been targeting you specifically, keep a record of every negative interaction (Screenshots would do) with the troll, and then report the latest offence, and include all the evidence of previous offences.

 

Simultaneously, PM one of the site admins, so you can "escalate" the problem.

I wasn't referring to a ban. Offensive posts often do not get removed.

As with many things, people consider different things offensive. As with my above suggestion, you can still escalate a reported post by PM-ing the admin team or re-reporting the post and specifically requesting the senior admins to review the post.

im not those pple with huge ambition or big ego, and i happy to be nobody. being a loser is not as bad as you might think, im just a faild human being living my day. compared to me, everyone else seems sucessful in other way.

Well maybe(probably) he's delusional and you are a normal sane person, Anyone that defines himself superior to anyone is living on a fantasy, you know whats the first sensation that anyone that tries psy-shrooms , ego dissolving, because ego is dumb, you arent special neither anyone in particular, you play the same way as I or as that troll, just with different cards, first rule: no body shits flowers (if you encounter somebody that instead regular poo , makes a bouquet of flowers just tell me). 

But the feeling to be inferior is as worse as your troll friend delusions, how old are you?, because when I had 18-24 years I often thought about those things but now with 28 and full time job, dude any real winner will thank all the gods for having luck in life and never try to be superior, Those troll people usually have more feeling of being a looser that you will have anytime in your life.
