HP orders worldwide product recall over laptop batteries prone to fire hazard

ItsMitch

HP has ordered an international product recall on its laptops as it's batteries due to them being potentially prone to fire hazard. Makes me think back to something that had fire problems  cough samsung cough

Quote

Computer manufacturer HP has today announced that some of its laptops may contain faulty and potentially dangerous batteries. HP is asking owners to contact its customer service team immediately for a replacement battery.

The news comes at the tail-end of a disastrous week for computer manufacturers. This HP laptop news is hot on the heels of the Spectre and Meltdown processor problems – security risks that affect practically all modern computing devices.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, HP revealed that a selection of its laptops manufactured between 2015 and 2017 are affected by a battery fault that makes them a potential fire risk. HP is advising laptop owners to check immediately if their model is one of the affected ranges.

The affected products are the following:

hp-laptops.jpg

HP has kindly produced a bit of software to detect if your PC is affected which can be found here: https://batteryprogram687.ext.hp.com/en-GB/Home/ProgramSummary

HP urges people to contact them immediately for a free battery replacement and they have urged not to take it to a 3rd party.

Soooooo my thoughts are that it's been 5 days into this year and it's already shit, GOING TO BE A VERY FUN YEAR FOR TECHIES

And my brother only just got one of their Probook G5 (which makes all other laptops in the house look primitive).....
How many times is HP going to screw up with the batteries in their laptops?

I'd really hate to be in a business's IT department when a manufacturer starts a recall of something essential to the company.

Toshiba do a pretty good job of botching batteries too.    At least HP are offering free replacements and not trying to sweep it under the carpet.

this isn't good for them its probably not the same number off units as the note 7 but entire companies may have to return there laptops and that should severely slow down work flow and there gonna need new laptops.

With any luck this will be the impetus manufactures need to ensure they are engineering the batteries right and not cutting corners for size/performance.

For goodness sake. I helped my sister with her HP M7 laptop sometime last year. When I went to download a driver on HP's site there was a banner displaying a recall notice on the page. The power cord was defective. Something about it being prone to overheating and possibly catching fire.
