Intel quietly releases it's Xeon 28 Cores / 56 Threads.

With rumor of 32 Core early this year.

Probrably not since low clockspeeds would be an issue

It will be skylake based instead of broadwell, so I'd assume the temperature increase from core count will be negated by temperature decrease from architecture efficiency.

It runs at up to 2.5 ghz for the 28 cores / 56 threads with a TDP of up to 205 watts. 

 

For comparison The Ryzen 1700 has 8 cores / 16 threads in 65w running at 3 ghz , so multiply that by 3 and you have 24 cores / 48 threads in 205 watts. Of course, by reducing the maximum frequencies to match Intel's 2.5 ghz and carefully selected dies, AMD could probably squeeze 4 x 8 cores = 32 cores / 64 threads in 205w

 

So it's not that big of  an achievement from Intel.

Ryzen TDP is not calculated the same as Intel. The 1800X uses 160W which is the same as a 6900k while have a 95W TDP.

I knew TDP was calculated differently, but there's no fucking way it uses 160W. you'd essentially require either an AIO or a NH-D15 (Or other comparable air cooler) to cool a 160W TDP CPU.

read that slightly wrong. It is more like 130-140 watts under load.

Yes. And I took off about 20-30 watts and you get the CPU power consumption. It uses more than 95 watts. Around 30-40 more.

TDP on Ryzen, and all Intel CPUs, are heat output, not power draw.

Ryzen 7 draws the same amount of power as an X99 chip, but outputs less heat (?), meaning that power is being more efficiently used, and Ryzen has more components inside it to power, assuming AMD's TDP measuring methods are close to Intel's.

Um.. not that's not how it works.

all energy that goes into a CPU gets outputted as heat. basic thermodynamics

Intel just puts all their X99 CPUs under a broad roof, 140W TDP, even though the TDP of a 6900K is probably more like 100W or less.
