Rumor: AMD Zen having issues with integrated usb 3.1

With amd zen having everything integrated into the cpu. It's rumor there is a issue with the integrated usb 3.1 controller that's provided by Asmedia. The issue is, there are major bandwidth drops as the distance increases between the Asmedia usb 3.1 controller with the usb 3 ports. Board makers are adding other redriver and retimer chips to solve this problem, but its driving up cost, where its affecting into the pcie budget.

Amd on the other hand says everything is on track and Asmedia stated their integrated usb 3.1 controller passes the required certifications.

AMD needs some help designing their chips. Maybe intel should help.

Motherboard manufacturers are noticing significant drops in USB 3.1 bandwidths with increase in circuit distances (think wiring running from the AM4 socket to USB 3.1 front-panel headers on the bottom-right corner of a motherboard).

 

Here's a simple solution: stop placing the header there. Move the usb 3 header to the top right side of the motherboard somewhere above the atx power connector and to the right of the memory slots. After all, in that header you usually plug cable which goes to front panel usb 3 connectors anyway.

I know personally as my Vive didn't work properly because it needed USB 3.0 so I had to return it. Pretty stupid but it is what it is. I feel all the AMD news is because they have bold claims and it is finally some competition

no, i just have nothing that is compatible with usb 3.0(every flash drive, adaptor, etc. is usb 2.0).

Well usb 3.1 runs at 10Gb/s and 3.0 at 5Gb/s. If the drop is still faster than 3.0, say 7Gb/s, they can call it usb 3.0+

Faster than 3.0 but slower than 3.1 :P

Guys just stop this, the board partners put usb 3.1 on AM3+ boards, so they should be able to put usb 3.1 on Zen boards...
